How to Calm a Child Using These Tips

Unfortunately, there are no anger-management classes for pre-schoolers you can whisk them away to, but you can still learn how to calm a child by understanding why they do it. In many occasions, the aggression your child is showing isn't on purpose, it's usually because they want to get their own way, and are testing your boundaries.

Your job, as a parent, is to teach them that their anger is not going to solve problems, or reward them with what they want. You need to show them that they need to control their emotions and instead go about things calmly and respectfully instead.

Show No Tolerance: Do not allow aggressive behaviour from your child in any shape or form. You should make a house rule that aggression is not tolerated, and any form of this will result in punishment, or a time out.

Do Not Smack: Do you really think that how to calm a child down is to smack them? Smacking children will teach them to hit others when they are angry too. If you have a more calming and authoritative meaning, and do not smack, this will teach them that the way to solving problems they have is not to smack.

Keep Yourself Calm at All Times: The last thing you want to do when trying to calm a child down is to get into a slugging match with them. Your child will learn to manage their anger by how you manage yours.
