How To Repair DVD Scratch and Protect your DVD from scratches.

If your DVD, CD or CD-Rom are scratched badly, most likely you will encountered errors while playing back your DVD or trying to read the data from the disk.

You can try to repair the DVD scratch and make your DVD playable/readable again.

Why A Scratched DVD Cause Read Error When Played

A DVD reader uses a laser beam to read the data on the DVD surface. This laser beam passes thru the plastic layer and reads the data on the metal layer. So even if the plastic layer is scratched, the data on the metal surface will be unaffected and still as good as new.

But sometimes, a DVD reader will not be able to read a scratch DVD. Reason is the laser beam need to pass thru the plastic layer to reach the metal layer. So if the plastic layer is scratched very badly, the laser beam will not be able to pass thru properly and thus read error will occur.

Does Repairing A Scratched DVD Helps?

The short answer is yes. Remember data is on the metal layer of the DVD and the reason this data cannot be read because the plastic layer is scratched, thus, causing the laser beam path to be distorted.

After you repaired a scratched DVD plastic surface, the laser beam will again be able to pass thru the surface correctly and reach the metal surface to read the data.
