How To Make a Relationship Last
Recently I found myself looking in the mirror and asking, "How do I make my relationship with my spouse last?" You see we've been married now for almost fourteen years and things have changed. Some things changed for the better, of course. But some really important and fundamental things that weren't suppose to change, did. For instance, my spouse and I started to take each other for granted. We had forgotten what it was like when we first met; the flame that was roaring in our hearts.
Back To Fundamentals
I needed to get back to fundamentals and find those strengths that would help us get closer and rekindle that fire for a long long time. So who better to talk to than my dear granny. Besides, she's been married for nearly 60 years. Who better an expert on spousal relationships than she! Who better to give me advice on how to make a relationship last. And so she told me of three strengths that has kept her relationship going for so long.
Friendship
Friendship is the grounding of her relationship with my grandpa. Imagine, she said, a relation, the one with - your spouse, mom, dad, brother, sister or friend without the all important constituent called friendship. It would be a relation without a soulfulness and hence lifeless and short-lived. Respectfulness and Trustfulness
Respectfulness and trustfulness are the factors that stabilizes a relationship. Without them the adhesiveness between you and your spouse will begin to stress and finally separate if not given time to mend and build back up. Passion
And finally there is passion. There is, of course, physical passion. And this is important to any relationship. But more importantly there is the passion that truly comes from the heart. I've learned to feel it all over again each time I look at my spouse. It's the welling-up you feel in your stomach...the butterflies you get deep down...when I see her smile. Without passion there is nothing. Three Core Strengths
So there they are; the three core strengths as told by my granny that has helped me understand how to make a relationship last.. It doesn't get any more fundamental than that.
