Howard Schiffer

Introducing my superhero...

Howard Schiffer has always been passionate about nutrition. For over 30 years he has helped to develop and sell a number of health food items.

In 1994, his priorities changed when Southern California was struck by the Northridge earthquake. During this time Schiffer realized how important it was to help get basic nutrition to the earthquake's victims. At this time, he helped to organize his friends and business colleagues from the health food industry to make an effort to help to distribute vitamin supplements to those who needed them most.

This was the launch of Schiffer's new charitable organization, Vitamin Angels. Over the years, they have helped to distribute over 350 million vitamins and supplements in 82 countries.

During his travels, Schiffer noticed how many children worldwide go blind and even die as a result of Vitamin A deficiencies. He then learned that high doses of vitamin A to children and lactating mothers can help to prevent this problem. This observation spawned Schiffer's current goal which is to eradicate childhood blindness by the year 2020, a project appropriately called, Operation 20/20.
