Draw a side elevation of the vehicle you would like to draw. Draw a rectangle with the same basic proportions as the vehicle you are attempting to draw. Sedan cars often have longer, thinner rectangles, while vans and SUVs will have thicker square like rectangles for their primary shape. Position a new smaller rectangle above the first one to represent the vehicle from the windows up. Next, sketch proportional tires for your vehicle.

Spend some time on this because it is going to be the groundwork of your drawing, in the event that there is something incorrect here, it will be difficult to fix afterward. Work with a light colored pencil, take your time and effort and be patient. Even the professionals take time to create perfect drawings!

How to draw cars like a pro takes practice, practice, practice...

At this point choose a position on the paper that you would like to use as your perspective. Project lines at 45 degrees from all of the points from your side elevation, like the corners and indents from the body. Imagine you are standing some distance looking at the corner of a car. Ensure these lines are in a straight line, work with a ruler plus a light pencil once more. Sports cars usually have curvier outlines, while older vehicles usually have straight lines and much more angular features.

Now you will choose a distance (approx width of vehicle) from the side elevation together with your projected lines and start drawing the perspective view. It should look like a duplicate of your side view that is shrunk down a bit. Once more spend some time and make sure you get it correct.

Of course now you can sketch in the lines between both side elevations of the car. Just like connect the dots! Next add all of the little structure details that you can, like headlights, bumpers, and door handles. There's no huge secret for how to sketch a car. This step is the most time consuming depending on how good you would like it to appear.
