The "Hug-A-Buck" Network

Hug A Buck? - What a strange name - Goodness, who would want to hug one of those dirty, smelly, full of germs pieces of paper?
Well, let me make a few revelations here for you: If that's the way you feel, chances are you will never have many of those pieces of paper to hug.
How can I say that? I can say that because:
1) That's the way I used to feel when I was broke.
2) Which rock have you been hiding under if you haven't heard about the big buzz on the law of attraction?
I will talk about that more at length in future blogs. Today I just want to welcome you to the Hug A Buck blog.

So why 'Hug A Buck'?
My friend Klaus came up with that name because we were both so broke at some point in our life that we were each functioning on a survival mode, worrying about paying the next bill, and when some money would come our way, sometimes we would say "Boy, I could just hug those bucks!" So when Klaus and I decided to go into internet marketing together, he suggested we use that name. I thought it was very appropriate, plus I am very sensitive to the music of words, and 'Hug a buck' sounds pretty musical, don't you think?

When we started out in affiliate marketing, we were newbies at internet marketing strategies. We had each done some type of web marketing: I was a bit familiar with website marketing because I had two web sites - though I can hardly say that they were great marketing tools; I had no marketing plan, no internet marketing strategy, I did consider paying for search engine marketing services, but never did, I had heard of viral marketing but didn't really have a clue how to go about it (I must admit that I am no computer wizard). My web sites were mostly business cards, I was doing email marketing, I was an affiliate of a couple of programs that I thought were great, but never did any active network marketing to promote them.

My friend Klaus knew a lot more than I did. Sometimes he would talk to me about multi level marketing (I sort of know what this is about), direct marketing (this is when you knock on doors, right?), investor marketing ( huhh, I am a real estate investor, perhaps I can grasp the concept of real estate marketing, but what do you mean 'investor marketing'?), postcard marketing (is it what it sounds like?) %u2026. Goodness !!! What is marketing anyway???

More on marketing in future blogs.

Go niche!

Lenses on niche topics, like a comparison list of the 10 best organic peanut butters, or your personal review of Lost Odyssey, or a debate over who the final Cyclon is in Battlestar Gallactica--these lenses do better than generic mainstream pages like "Buy an iPod here."184 points

Share your passion!

Assuming you're passionate about your topic, you're probably always talking about it, reading about it, finding out new tidbits. When you learn something new, add it to your lens. If you see an interesting discussion in a forum, turn it into a poll or a debate. Passion shows!150 points

Reread your lens

When writing, its easy for the eyes to skip over silly little typos. If you go back and really read it a few days later... The little things will jump out at you.

Add a Table of Contents

Especially if your lenses are content-rich (as they should be, of course!) and broken into multiple modules in digestible-size chunks of information (ditto), a Table of Contents gives visitors to your lens a great preview of what they can expect to find in your lens, and why it's worth reading on. Or, for someone who's looking for a specific type of information on your lens, a TOC lets that visitor jump directly to the relevant content on your lens with just one click.52 points
