Learning to Play Golf Should be Fun

I always have fun when I play with some friends, even when I play with complete strangers. Golf relaxes me, maybe its because of the setting. The beauty of groomed fairways and greens, with the contrast of the ruff along the sides. The trees, sand traps, water hazerts, traffic, ect.

People seem to be on thier best behavior towards others when playing golf. Of course there is the occasional %^*#@ when a shot is shanked. Thats to be expected due to the difficulty of the sport.

I must admit, learning to play golf is more fun when I srike the ball well. As apposed to hitting bad shots.

What I've found to be most difficult in this game is consistency. I tend to play better when I focus on a consistent swing and simplify it. It's all in the mechanics, like throwing a baseball. The more parts that are moving, the more likely something will go wrong.

When learning to play golf, focus on the short game. Chipping and putting are areas that will improve your score. A four foot putt counts just as much as a 300 foot drive. If you can consistantly hit the green from 150 yards out and two putt, you'll score better than 70% of the golfers on the course.

"How to Maximize Your Drive Distance by Hitting Triples Instead of Home Runs "

Releasing your hands through the ball will give you greater distance and accuracy

Are you a recreational golfer that struggles with slices, extreme hooks, or mis-hits (shanks) when hitting from the tee box? This problem usually is caused when you don't release your hands through the ball correctly. By "releasing your hands through the ball", I am describing a technique of generating club head speed at the moment of impact without having to swing so hard that you come out of your shoes. This technique will also eliminate the problem of the club head meeting the ball out of square which creates the slice.

3 Benefits of This Technique

1. You'll learn an easy way of "getting your hands through the ball"
2. You'll be increasing the speed of the club head through the impact zone
3. You will ensure that the club head is square at impact (which will drastically reduce any slice that you may have)

What To Do

Step 1: Create the "X"

This means that on the follow through, you need to focus on making your forearms cross. This will ensure that your hands have released through the ball correctly. Here's an illustration of what I am talking about.

Notice the "X" that is created after impact and where the shaft of the club is pointed. Practice getting in this position. Practice creating that "X" after impact.

It will be easy to understand the alternative by paying attention to where the club is pointed, which will be explained in the next step.

Step 2: Finish at Third Base

Focus on pointing the club down the third base line on your follow through. In relation to where your feet are pointed in the picture, the club is pointed down the third base line. This is what we want.

Many golfers finish their swing with the club pointed straight up in the air, or even down the first base line in relation to their feet. Try that once and you'll feel the extreme "inside-out" movement that produces a slice. This is nothing more than a bad habit that can be easily broken. The Simple Golf Swing goes over this step in much more detail.

So, next time you're on the tee box, focus on just 2 things. Make the "X" and "finish at third". That's it. Swinging easy should already be grooved into your swing. Focus on these 2 tips, and you should be well on your way to a consistent golf swing. Staying out of trouble with your driver, is the first step to scoring better golf.

Learn to Play the Game of Golf

You can't learn this game in a weekend, just the basics. Practice the techniques you learn on the golf course while having fun. Don't take it to serious you'll just get frustrated.

As time goes on, you'll improve. As you improve, you'll have more fun.

A scramble is fun to play. It's where you have a partner and play the best shot. For example: You tee off but only hit the ball 150 yds.. Your partner tees off and cruches the ball 300 yds.. You play your next shot from where your partner's ball landed. Lets say your next shot lands on the green, and your partner's shot goes over the green. Then you both putt from where your shot landed. See how fun this can be! Your a beginner and yet your putting for a birdie. (one under par)

Mr. Wood from Tulsa,OK

I bought this golf travel case after shopping many different sites. I could not find a higher quality product. I researched the company that makes this golf travel case and found that all they do is make cases for various purposes. The lifetime gurantee is unbeatable & the price I found at Amazon was the best I found. I am very happy with the product and the service I received from Amazon.

John from Austin, Texas USA,

This is the best travel case for golf clubs. It is like a super hard sided Samsonite suitcase for golf clubs with a far more robust TSA lock than you will see on your typical Samsonite suitcase. The only down side is that because it is solid and rigid, it takes up a lot of space when it is empty.

So you have a choice. Travel with a cloth golf bag that you can fold up when it is empty and allow your clubs to be abused. Or travel with one of these babies knowing that your clubs are safe and sound and pay the bell man to hold the empty bag in storage. If you think this is a choice, you don't love your clubs . . . or you didn't pay for them.

Who Cares from Charlotte, NC,

Unconditional lifetime warranty, $1,500 club insurance, what is not to like? No other case comes with the same guarantees.

Reasons to Play Golf

You can play different formats in the game of golf

Golf is a challenge. I'm always looking for ways to improve my game. By reading a book on the subject, or watching golf lessons by the pros on the golf channel.

Another reason to play golf, it gives me some time away from lifes every day grind. A chance to get out doors with friends,(Everyone I play golf with, I consider a friend) it helps relieve stress.

I feel comradery on the golf course with the people I play with. Whether or not there is a small wager on the line. It's fun to play for skins, also to play in a scramble.

A golfer wins a skin when his/her score on one hole is the lowest. If two players have the same low score on the same hole, its called a push (no skin awarded). The next hole is then worth 2 skins.

A scramble is when a team plays the best ball or shot. Each team member hits thier ball from where the last shot landed. This usually is the format in tournaments.

It's a blast to play in amateur tournaments with a group of friends or co-workers. Public golf courses often can be reserved for tournaments and many local businesses will sponsor these events.

Sound off!

Any comment on the game of golf is welcome.

I often wonder, how can such a small person hit the ball so far? It must be in the mechanics of the swing. For example: Women pros most of whom have a smaller build than I but hit the ball farther than I can.

Why do so many people get hooked on the game of golf

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

how can a person get hooked on chasing a little white ball around a golf course? while at the same time getting frustrated and PO'ed at that little white ball

TeeMeister says:

It's funny that most people that say "...golf is boring", have never played the first round of golf. I believe the reason many get hooked is the fact that it is a game that cannot be mastered. Results one day, do not transfer to the next golf outing. Even Phil and Tiger have painfully bad days. The Madness is in the Mastery, ...or rather, the lack of.

Golf is a great game to play. It's a challange to master. One good shot keeps me comming back.
