Black Labrador Retrievers Do You Love Them Too?

Do you love Black Labradors? Do you have a pet labrador? This is the story of our labrador dog.
People also want to know if labradors are good with cats. We have two siamese oriental cats and whilst Grace used to chase them when she was very young she is very good with them now. I love my black labrador. Grace was born in spring 2009. I have always had family pets and our family dog is also a black labrador called Daisy. Daisy is quite an old girl now and not in the best of health sadly.
Grace and Daisy play together, although the old girl keeps her in her place as you might expect. I think its amazing how the tone of a bark says exactly what it intends. Just one big 'gruff' from Daisy and Grace behaves straight away. The dog experts amongst you wil know of course that are different types of labrador retriever. Basically they divide into 'show' dogs and 'working' or gun dogs. Grace is a slim working dog and she is beautiful, smart and intelligent. It's amazing how dogs are like their owners isn't it!

Black Labrador Puppy
A little beauty
I've always love taking photos of Grace. She was a little cutey as a tiny puppy. When we went to choose a dog she was the only girl in a litter of nine. What was noticeable immediatley even at eight weeks old was how placid she seemed. She loves having her photo taken too!
Grace Enjoys A Shower
I really love this photo of Grace. Here she is just after a shower following a walk in the muddy fields near us. Ideally we should wash her outside but the weather has been a bit cold and the water from the outside tap is freezing!

Grace the black labrador retriever
This was Grace at 14 months old. She was starting to settle down. That certainly didn't mean slowing down or stopping her curiosity.
Even at that age she had and still gets 3 good walks a day and she will often disappear out of sight for 5-10 minutes at a time in the fields around our house. Her obedience is getting better. We can whistle her and 90% of the time she'll come back immediately. She is also very good at retrieving 'lost' objects. Yesterday we went to a country park and took her favourite water Kong toy.
It's a good a idea to keep some toys as 'special' for particular walks as the dog will 'value' them more. Any way, Grace managed to get under some fencing with her toy and decided to leave it on the 'wrong' side of the fence where we couldn't get it. We carried on walking and 45 minutes later went back. Using the command 'fetch your toy' she went went back under the fence, found her toy and brought it back to lots of fuss and some doggie treats.

Grace at 1 year old. I think she looks great in this photo. She seems to have an amazing memory she found a large log , dropped it, and then raced hundreds of yards back to retrieve it.
