Pixar's best so far - BOLT
What would you do if your dog had super powers? I would be glad that my dog will become more disciplined. I recently watched Bolt and I must say that the plot has been beautifully carved out. The whole theme of working on the dog's psyche for personal gains gets woven into a movie with a moral message of love, loyalty and friendship.
Each character in the movie is so very well thought upon. I will talk about my favorite pigeons first.
The Pigeons !!
The pigeons sitting on the parapet always annoyed me because of their silly behavior. I failed to understand that why did God make pigeons so stupid. Actually they were not stupid at least in the past. They were carriers of messages across long distances. I guess with time their race lost the grey cells! However creativity can make birds like pigeons also intelligent. In the movie you see some street smart pigeons that succeed in freeing themselves from the tyrant clutches of Mittens - an alley cat who bullied them day in and day out. Then you can see some very enterprising pigeons pitch in their million dollar idea to Bolt of making a movie based on alien abduction. I loved the absent-mindedness of pigeons in the movie at least. The Rhino!
Next on my favourites was the awesome Rhino. He is an ardent fan of Bolt's television series. He cannot see his super hero, his idol go down at all. His luck shines on him when destiny makes him meet Bolt himself. It was hilarious to watch that little fur ball of a hamster go up and down in excitement of meeting his super star. The voice over done by Mark Walton is par excellence. His wit, one liners, loyalty illuminate the screen completely. A great supporting star cast. And the good old BOLT

The protagonist Bolt is no less an endearing character. He is totally unaware of the cruelties of the outer world. The first scene of a little American white shepherd puppy playing with his little cute carrot toy takes you by awe. In that scene he meets his person, Penny. Since that day it is fed into him that he has to protect Penny from the evil green eyed Dr. Calico. How cruel not to allow a dog be a dog. Have his share of fun of playing with his tail, playing with a ball and do all the other 'dog stuff'. But no worries, he learns it all from a cat - Mittens. He learns to be a regular dog when he understands that he is no super dog. Love the fact that the regular dog cat chase was replaced with a healthy relationship of friendship, of togetherness and love.
I loved these three characters in the movie. At the end of it I was satiated with watching one good movie after a long long drought of good animated movies. It is not one those contemporary animated movies. The action scenes may be clichéd but nonetheless a super fantastic movie. After watching the movie, I don't think I would like my dog to have any super powers. I love the way she is, slobbery and spoilt!
Sure I am going to buy my copy of the DVD as soon as it is out.
