Read this off and on over the past few days at work, and I just wanted to thank you for posting it. It was a pleasure reading through your adventures on the IAT, sucks the ending was so bleh, but such is life. Thanks again for bringing us along.

It's a beautiful hike. They are extending the trail to include Newfoundland. I would love to go back and do the new section.

M-C : Thanks for your kind words. It's one thing to have friends and family tell me I write well; it means so much more when it comes from someone else who has no stake in making me happy!

MysticTurtle, once again you have captured my attention... I couldn't stop reading. You write so well and describe things so wonderfully - even the difficult times. I can hardly wait to read the continuation of your bike ride. Remember, if you do get down to SC this fall, you have a free 'bed & breakfast' place to stay.....

I'd give this lens more than 5* if they were available. Instead, I shall vote you up in the Fresh Squid contest :-). Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

The Word "Depression" Caught My Human's Eye For This Lens, And Glad We Went Through The Whole Thing! What A Story; What A Trip! You Must Have A Lot Of Guts And Initiative To Go Places (And Through Places) You've Never Been Before, On Foot! Thanks For Putting The Definitions In, Too! The Pictures Are Fantastic, Especially The Moose (Which The Human Collects). Glad You Got Home In One Piece So You Could Share This Wonderful Adventure With Everyone!

Oh, of course I'll aim for Giant Squidom. I have loads of ideas just waiting for time to build them. It'll be awhile as I'm about to head out for 4 months on my bicycle....but just wait for this fall!

Awesome lens!! I live in New England and have hiked parts of the Appalachian Trail...Would love to hike the whole thing someday.

Ooooh...adventure buddy...dangerous offer! I don't know anyone else who both wants to do this stuff and has time to do it. I'd like to do the Florida Trail (with the additions from Key West and to Springer to complete the ECT), but didn't want to do that one alone.
  • Ramkitten Feb 28, 2009 @ 6:16 pm | delete
Yay! What a great addition to Squidoo. The IAT is definitely on my "To Do" list--the important "To Do" list, that is--and reading about your experience is a so exciting to me. Of course, I'm lensrolling this to every one of my outdoor lenses. And, hey, if you're ever looking for an adventure buddy, add me to your list of potential travel-mates. (Steve loves to hike and do all things outdoors, but he has much less free time than I do.) Anyhow, this is awesome! If they had a ten-star option, I'd give it here.

I loved that book! Some elitist hikers criticized it because he didn't hike the whole trail...but that's not necessarily what he set out to do. I just thought it was hilarious.
  • Evelyn_Saenz Feb 28, 2009 @ 2:37 pm | delete
Wow! What an incredible journey. My only experience on the AT is from reading A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Now I have even more incentive to hike at least a part of the AT.

Thank you for joining A Walk in the Woods.
