Why Laminate?

It seems like ID cards are becoming more and more of a necessity as our society propels itself head first into the future. If you're like many people, you need a plastic ID card to get around the workplace and gain access to certain areas. You need event passes to be able to attend all sorts of gatherings, conventions, and seminars. ID cards are even a daily must for individuals when it comes to identifying ourselves in a wide variety of situations.

The typical ID card gets a lot of use, and as a result, can suffer a from a high degree of wear and tear if it's not properly protected. That's where the lamination process comes in. At ID Superstore, we are proud to offer you an extensive selection of quality ID related services, including custom card design and custom card printing. We also carry a wide selection of top-notch ID supplies to meet your every need including badge holders, lanyards, plastic PVC cards, lamination supplies and much more!

How Does Lamination Work?

The lamination process as we know it today was actually invented by a dentist named Morris Blum in the year 1938. It may sound odd to think that a dentist is responsible for coming up with a process that is now used to protect our ever-present ID cards, but in truth, dental laminates had been in use to better protect teeth since the mid 1800's. Blum was the first to see how the process could be applied to the protection of photographs. The first photo ever laminated was one taken of Blum's wife. The rest is history!

The term "lamination" simply refers to the sandwiching of an object between two layers of protective material. The layers are then fused together by use of heat and/or pressure, as well as some form of adhesive in many cases. Plastic ID cards, credit cards, and other similar types of cards are usually laminated with tough plastic film. This helps our essential IDs resist creasing, folding, smudging, staining, and many other forms of general wear and tear that is otherwise unavoidable when it comes to something we use so much and so often.

ID cards are a very important part of today's society. They need to be protected so they will last longer and you won't have to replace them as often. One of the best methods for protecting your identification card would be to laminate it. In fact, laminating ID cards is actually one of the oldest and most popular ways to prevent your card from being damaged. It protects it from being bent as easily and from minor water damage.
