I Dream of Jeannie Tribute & Gifts

Have you ever had a secret desire to look like Barbara Eden's I Dream of Jeannie persona? Now you can!

There are scads of cute costumes available out there for playing "dress up," even for dogs! Why not throw an I Dream of Jeannie party? Guests can transform themselves into Jeannie, her evil sis, Majors Nelson or Healey or even *shudder* Dr. Bellows!

Now, that's a horse of a different color!

In 2006, I was commissioned by an I Dream of Jeannie fan to create a big-eye version of Barbara Eden as Jeannie (of I Dream of Jeannie fame) in my doll-like style of art. I had never painted a genie before, so this would definitely present a challenge.

I researched the Internet for costume, hair, and magic bottle reference photos to assist me in painting Jeannie. I then sketched out in charcoal pencil the outlines of my design for my Jeannie and also included her purple magic bottle. I painted her in acrylics on a 20- by 16-inch stretched canvas, and designed her with a very unique look that was a first for me. She took me about a month to complete.

When I e-mailed photos of the completed "I Dream of Jeannie Doll" painting to My client, she was so thrilled with the results, that she asked me to paint Jeannie's evil sister as a companion piece, which also took about a month to complete. Jeannie's evil sister had the same unique look as Jeannie # 1, but with dark hair, green eyes (instead of blue), olive skin, and a two-tone green skirt in lieu of harem pants. And, oh yes--she had a birdcage in her hand--with a screaming shrunken Major Nelson inside! I wonder who was responsible for that?

My client was tickled pink (no pun intended) when she saw the paintings in person, and said that the I Dream of Jeannie paintings went beyond her expectations. Creating those I Dream of Jeannie Doll paintings is one of the best things I have ever done.

For Halloween that same year, I decided to paint a Gothic genie in orange and black, complete with kitty ghosts emerging from her magic bottle. In 2009, I painted a genie with red hair in a purple and gold harem outfit with a bejeweled magic bottle. I loved her so much that I kept her for myself (sorry!).

Although the original I Dream of Jeannie inspired paintings are no longer available, I've designed lots of cool merchandise with these genie graphics. There are giant posters, mousepads, magnets, stickers, tee shirts, greeting cards, sculptures, keychains, mugs, and more. I would love to have an I dream of Jeannie Maquette (or two?) to add to my collection! I can visualize the statue on a table with my "I Dream of Jeannie Doll" prints hanging in the background. An I Dream of Jeannie maquette would satisfy two needs of mine: my doll obsession, and my Love of I Dream of Jeannie. Maybe one day . . . *sigh*. . . .
