The history of Internet Marketing and how it can benefit you
Hello everyone! The purpose of this Internet Marketing University lense is to give a brief history of Internet Marketing and what its all about. I would also like to show you how Internet Marketing can benefit you as an individual. Thanks to the internet, you don't have to be a large advertising corporation to become wealthy from marketing. Internet marketing is for ANYONE whether you make it a full-time, work-from-home job or just do it a few hours a day for that little bit of extra income.
The History of Internet Marketing
The young history of internet marketing is just over 10 years old. In 1994, $175 billion was spent on traditional advertising and $0 was spent on internet marketing. However, by '96 this number had jumped to $301 million and by '97 online advertising had become a $1 billion industry.Obviously, Internet Marketing really took off in 1997. During 1997's tax season, Exederin launched a marketing campaign claiming to be the "tax headache medicine," and advertised on various financial websites. They even offered free samples to anyone who signed up on their website with a name and e-mail address.
The campaign soared. In just one month, Exederin had added 30,000 new names to its customer list (about 1,000 names per day). And the best part? The cost of the campaign and obtaining those names was only half that of traditional marketing methods.
Upon seeing the success of Exederin, several other large firms started dumping millions into internet marketing. You can see the snowball effect from here: more money leads to better quality advertising (i.e. developing trackings systems for advertising banners to monitor who was seeing them and how many hits they were receiving to evaluate the banner's overall effectiveness), which then led to the rise (and fall, though that's another topic of conversation) of the dotcom era, and then BOOM! By 2000, internet marketing had grown to an $8.2 billion industry*

Several resources--guides, tutorials, DVD's, CD's--have been created since to teach people the do's and don'ts of internet marketing. The industry continues to grow and is now a top choice as an advertising medium for a plethora of businesses, big and small.
However, despite the booming history of internet marketing and all of the available media pertaining to instructing people about on how internet marketing works, I know of only one viable internet marketing university that has the necessary resources, tools, ongoing training, and also has 24/7 online help. We will talk more on this later.
So What is Internet Marketing? How Does it Work?
Internet marketing is advertising using the internet as a medium; instead of TV or radio, you use the internet to get your message across.As an internet marketer, you could be promoting your own products, or you could simply promote products for other people and make a comission off your sales.
Usually, companies who have a webpage (which is pretty much any business today, big or small) will want to drive traffic to that page and get people to sign up with them and/or purchase products from them online. One way they can do this is by having an affiliate program.
An affiliate program allows anyone to sign up with the company as an "affiliate," or someone who brings a person or a group into the company. As an affiliate marketer, you would be given access to advertising banners and links, and you would also be given a unique 'tag' with your affiliate link. When someone clicks on your affiliate link, they are sent to the business' homepage. This homepage looks exactly the same as if you had gone to their page directly; there is nothing different to the naked eye. However, your unique 'tag' is embedded in the coding of this page so anything the customer does while visiting (i.e. signing up or making purchase) is automatically credited to you. Don't worry, you don't have to understand how this works to be an affiliate marketer; I don't understand and I can still make money doing it.
Isn't the internet a beautiful thing?
Now, in case you didn't catch it at the beginning of the last paragraph, ANYONE can become an affiliate and do affiliate marketing; there are no prerequisites, no college education, and pretty much no requirements other than having a name, address, phone number, and an e-mail address. Internet marketing is truly an equal opportunity since no one needs to know your age, sex, nationality, how much money you make, etc.

This sounds pretty cool! How can I become an internet marketer?
Alright, now lets get into the nitty gritty of how you can become an internet marketer. First, lets go over what internet marketing is and is not.
Internet marketing is:
- a genuine advertising industry
- professional, so please be professional while doing it (don't lie about product reviews or give false success stories).
- a viable way for you to earn a steady and honest income promoting products online.
Internet marketing is NOT:
- a get-rich-quick sheme! It is a business and as such requires time, dedication, quality work, and building.
- SPAM! I can't say it enough; internet marketing is NOT spam. Don't even think about relating the two. Internet marketing provides honest reviews and opinions about specific products that are targeted towards a specific audience that could benefit from those products. Nothing more. Internet marketers simply find an audience looking for a way to solve a problem and gives them a viable solution.
Now, on a more personal note, I want to talk more about the "get-rich-quick" thing. Not too long ago, I was searching for ways to make money online. Bills were piling up, the bank account was dwindling, and I was stressing. This is NOT the right frame of mind to go online looking for ways to make money. I ended up losing $50 to a scam I thought would make me money that very week. Anyway, after I gave my forehead a good knock with the palm of my hand, I learned an important lesson: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "GET RICH QUICK!" If you see those words, or anything remotely like them, just run.
There are ways to earn money online, and people have even been able to leave their daytime job and work from home making six figures doing it, but it doesn't happen overnight.
With that being said, lets take a look at my favorite products that can teach you and guide you through the process of internet marketing.

You can get books, DVD's, CD's, etc to give you tips and tools on how to make it in the biz, but nothing can compare to a membership with Wealthy Affiliate. This internet marketing university offers guides, tutorials, learning videos, and famous forums that will definitely keep you busy for awhile. They even offer an 8 week course to get you started. Like I said before, internet marketing is not a get-rich-quick deal; it takes time to read and learn the provided material. It is very possible to make $1000/day in this industry, but getting to that level takes time, dedication, and building on your part.
