When my daughter was in elementary school, her school held an ice cream social at the end of each school year. They had vanilla ice cream and all the parents brought a topping or soda. It was always so good.
An ice cream party can consist of just vanilla ice cream with a variety of toppings, or have a variety of ice creams too.

Ice Cream Toppings
People like having choices of ice cream toppings
Ice cream toppings can be pretty much anything sweet, but can also be salty; some people like potato chips or pretzels with their ice cream. Another great topping is soda, especially root beer for an old fashioned ice cream float. Yummm.
From sprinkles to syrup, to coconut, and also fresh fruit in season is a great addition.
Nuts are also a popular choice; just make sure your servings each have their own spoons for dipping the toppings out, to keep all your guests happy.

- A serving area covered with a plastic or vinyl table cloth that can easily be wiped off.

Serving containers, scoops, and spoons for the toppings and ice cream.
For less mess, have syrups in plastic bottles that have a pump spout. - Bowls and spoons for the guests.
