Ice Hockey can be complicated to understand, especially when you have so much action happening, and so fast! OK, putting the puck in the back of net is obvious, but if you want to know all the ins and outs of this cool (get it :) sport, have a read here.

Its a Penalty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A rough sport requires tough rules, here are the ways to receicve a penalty.

1. Roughing - Not as major as fighting, generally pushing, shoving, slapping or elbowing.
2. Hooking - A playing using his stick to stop an opponent moving on.
3. Charging - Skating or charging directly at an opponent
4. Interference - Getting in the way of an opponent who does not have the puck.
5. Slashing - Smacking an opponent with the stick so as to cause injury
6. High-sticking - contact from a stick to above shoulder head. ie. The head!
7. Checking - hitting someone from behind.
8. Fighting - when players drop their gloves and punch it out.

If you're a budding player you really need to toughen up your physical strength to compete in a sport where these sorts of foul plays come up all too often. If you're powerfull on your feet then you'll be able to withstand these types of pyhsical challenges.
