Intrigued?

Note: This lens has been created in the style of O.J. Simpson. I'm not going to make a judgement on whether or not he did or didn't commit his crimes but I have created this lens in the same style as his book; if I had have applied for Seth's alternative MBA, this is how I would've done it.

I'll first fill you in on a few details as to why I chose to make this lens and why I chose not to apply.

  • I promised SusanVillasLewis I would make a lens.

  • I'm lucky enough to have 4 amazing best friends (Liz, Scott, Dani and Christine) and I don't want to be away from them for 6 months. If it was a permanent job offer then I would consider it. For a 6-month experience, no.

  • I'm starting up a few projects and want to see them through so it wouldn't be feasible for me to go to New York at this time.

  • As I have said to other people before; it would be blasphemous to my soul. I'm a catalyst. I make things happen. I don't want to learn through someone else because I would rather learn from my own mistakes. Some may think that is foolish and it probably is but if this opportunity were to be offered to me in a couple of years, then I would probably take it.

  • And...I have a couple of hours to kill. (Hey, at least I'm honest...)

What Do You Do Now?

A "Jack" Of All Trades...

A bit of everything really!

Why Do You Do It?

The simple answer would be; because it is there to be done.

A more complicated answer is; why wouldn't I try to put something from plan to action? Way too many people sit back and try to just keep their life.

They don't take risks, they don't bring new concepts to the table and generally, they are happy working for "the man". Simply, I'm not. I'm prepared to take the risks that could work out. I'm prepared to try and make that better future.

I know some of those projects will fail but I'll learn from each one. I'll improve on what I've learned before tackling the next one and eventually, I know, I will reach success.

I've written a post that goes into a little more detail on my blog; *here*.

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan

What Are You Hoping To Learn?

In one word; anything.

I don't believe you should ever have a target to attain a specific piece of knowledge unless you're interrogating someone. Any extra knowledge you can pick up has the potential to be beneficial and I wouldn't be trying to learn anything specific but would be trying to learn absolutely everything I could.

Simply, I'd try to make the most of the opportunity.

After You Learn It, What Are You Going To Do With It?

Depending on what I'd learned, I would utilise it to the best of my ability.

I don't think you can ask for any more than that.

Consider knowledge to be tools. The more tools you have, the better the chance you have of doing a job. Does that mean you can always do it? No. You still need to take the initiative and work out how to use each tool to fulfil it's potential.

It takes common sense to learn something but character to build on that knowledge.

Tell Me A True Story About Making A Change In The World

As some of you may know, I help my nan run the local Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal every year. The process involves boxing up all the poppies, putting the names on all the tins, sending them out, collecting them after Armistice Day, counting the money raised and banking it on behalf of the RBL.

I don't think it makes a massive change in the world but it is for a good cause and it does help those that have been in the wars for Britain.

I think that one thing which is often overlooked is the fact that the RBL doesn't just give the money to help the veterans from WWII (and the 4 remaining British WWI veterans) but also to those that have served in Iraq, Afghanistan and every war Britain has been involved in.

For more information, I'd like to point people towards aj2008's lens; Remembrance Day.

Have You Overcome A Dip? (And...)

What Astonishing Thing Did You Do Before You Did What You Do Now?

Note: This will include the answers to both those questions as they arose from the same situation.

I was at a sixth form! (Education for ages 16-18 in the UK.)

I wouldn't define it as astonishing but I will say it taught me a lot about myself.

The sixth form I was at had recently gained a new headmaster and it all went downhill from there. I wasn't enjoying my time there anymore and new I had to get out; fast!

Knowing that (what is left of) my family wouldn't approve of me leaving, I had to find a good reason. It was soon presented to me as the headmaster accused me of "failing my targets from age 11-16". Those targets, it appears, were more than to just pass every subject with flying colours. I took 10 GCSE's of which I passed all 10. (1 A*, 8B's and 1 C for anyone who's interested!)

I then questioned how they were the results of a failure. How could they be the results of someone that had underachieved? I was then told I wasn't allowed to question my targets.

I left that sixth form because I wasn't allowed to question, I wasn't allowed to ask why (one of the fundamentals in Sociology, one of the subjects I was studying at the time) and I wasn't even allowed to set my own targets. Personally, I think I should know my own abilities better than anyone.

Have I overcome a dip? The way my life is progressing since leaving that sixth form, I would have to say yes.

Make A Wish

If I could make one wish it would be to give "DareYourself" the life she wants. A posh girl on the surface; she's a little rockstar at heart and I'd like to be able to help her break free of her posh roots so she can live a little.

There's not really much point in making wishes though and I much prefer to make them happen so... We'll be going to Dublin, Ireland in October 2009 and I hope during that week my wish will come true. (And, of course, I'll probably make a lens about it whilst I'm there!)

What Else Should I Know?

  • I'm addicted to Starbucks. I even follow both their accounts on Twitter! (@Starbucks and @MyStarbucksIdea)

  • I've become an almost obsessive Twitterer; as you can see *here*.

  • I need to stop hitting the "stumble" button.

  • I spend way to much time on Myspace and Facebook...

  • Did I mention I'm a chronic procrastinator when I get bored?

  • I even run a blogger's forum too; more info *here*!

  • I also have a lensography; *here*

What Do You Think?

Should I Have Applied?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Yes

No

aj2008 says:

No, because you yourself do not believe that the time is right, so it does not matter what anyone else thinks. If you dont believe in something then it is very difficult to make it happen - I think you know what I mean!

One last Thing!

I wish all the applicants the best of luck. I envy them being able to do this at this time and I hope I get the opportunity in the future...

Good luck!

How Would You Have Done It?

And Other Comments...

SusanVillasLewis wrote...

So now I'm really sad you aren't coming. I had predicted some really awesome discussions would have happened. (And amazed I'm being credited with the power to force you to make a lens. Mwahahaha!!) Sending you good karma on your new ventures. (Hopefully it counts even though I don't actually believe in karma. :-)
