If I were stranded ...
Here's a fun activity for writers looking for a way around writer's block. If you were "stranded" and could only take 1 book, 1 movie, 1 CD and pick 1 food to eat ... what would *you* take with you? And if you could choose where you could be stranded, where would you want to be stranded? And remember, it doesn't have to be a desert island!
I got the idea for this lens from this group. Why not check it out and than make one of your own?
What Is This Lens?

Reader Poll: Which Book Would Be Most Helpful To You?
To answer this question, pretend you are lost somewhere where you have no shelter from the weather, must seek out wild food, and there is no civilization for miles.
You were in a plane crash (or boat crash, or your car broke down) you have nothing to survive with and no hope that any one will find you for at least a week or more. You must build shelter, find food, and possibly need first aid.
Amid the crash site you find a single book. What book would you most hope it was?

Think about your personal knowledge and skills which you currently have. How well could you survive living in the wild?
Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places
Amazon Price: $10.95 (as of 05/27/2012)![]()
List Price: $21.99
Used Price: $11.75
Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places shows readers how to find and prepare more than five hundred different plants for nutrition and better health, including such common plants as mullein (a tea made from the leaves and flowers suppresses a cough), stinging nettle (steam the leaves and you have a tasty dish rich in iron), cattail (cooked stalks taste similar to corn and are rich in protein), and wild apricots (an infusion made with the leaves is good for stomach aches and disgestive disorders).
More than 260 detailed line drawings help readers identify a wide range of plants -- many of which are suited for cooking by following the more than thirty recipes included in this book. There are literally hundreds of plants readily available underfoot waiting to be harvested and used either as food or as a potential therapeutic. This book is both a field guide to nature's bounty and a source of intriguing information about the plants that surround us.

Reader Poll: Food Storage
Most disasters strike at home and in today's modern age, very few people live anywhere's near the wilderness. When you need food in the city, you can't run to your nearest tidal pool and scoop up a handful of kelp. To survive a disaster in a built up area you need a food storage.
