In 1981, Elizabeth Glaser was infected with the AIDS virus through a blood transfusion, and unknowingly passed it on to both of her children. The Glaser family's tragedy inspired the creation of the Pediatric AIDS Foundation in 1988. Since then, we have been at the forefront of the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS, making remarkable strides in our struggle against an illness that has ravaged the globe. The Foundation was created at a time when few people knew that HIV/AIDS affected children. There was no research specifically on pediatric AIDS, and the drugs being used and developed for adults were not being used or tested in children.Mini documentary created by Elspeth Duncan (Happy Hippy Productions) for TTCRC (Trinidad and Tobago Coalition for the Convention on the Rights of the Child) "Invisible" focuses on the story of a woman named Veronica* and her two children. http://www.aids-remember-me.eu/ 740,000 people in the EU today have HIV/AIDS. One in three is unaware they have it. There is a rise of new infections in the EU and neighbouring countries. An EU survey reveals that in Europe less and less people know how the disease is transmitted and take the necessary precautions. Condoms are the best way to protect against HIV as well as other sexually-transmitted diseases such as herpes and condylomas. HIV is transmitted via mucus, wounds, used syringes and bodily fluids. Of these bodily fluids only 5 carry the disease from one person to another: blood, sperm, pre-seminal male secretions, vaginal secretions, and mother's milk. You still have a life to LIVE, LIVE it!!!
The Fire Within is an illuminating story of two people with singular spirit. Bob Bowers is a long-term AIDS survivor. He met Shawn 10 years ago and in spite of his disease, she married him six months later. To this day she remains HIV-negative. We record Shawn's participation in a 7-day, 575-mile bike ride as she tries, in some measure, to replicate Bob's everyday battles, his every day victories. The Fire Within is not only a movie about surviving AIDS; this is a movie about thriving-regardless of your circumstances...
