Improv Everywhere - We Cause Scenes

Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 80 missions involving thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

Basically, they are a huge improv troupe that causes crazy scenes in crazy places.

Improv Everywhere...

What's this all about?

Well, a group of Actors/Improvists known as agents go out on what they call missions. Improv Everywhere's missions might be defined by some as obscure events designed to make people laugh. 'Improv Everywhere' are believers in what they call "organized fun." They take funny ideas and bring them to life. For example, Improv Everywhere once had over one hundred agents dressed in blue shirts and khaki pants walk into a 'Best Buy' and simply stand around like employees. One mission saw Improv Everywhere bring several hundred people to Grand Central Station and simultaneously freeze for five minutes, then continue on as if nothing has happened. Improv Everywhere have been known to greet strangers at the airport with a hero's welcome, stop a suicide jumper (from a 2 foot ledge) and bring a dozen old-style desktop computers into a Starbucks (with free WiFi, of course).

Operation Best Buy

Check this out, a bunch of Improv Everywhere 'agents' went into a 'Best Buy' wearing blue shirts and khaki pants and stood around for a while. Actually, Improv Everywhere did a better job then their actual employees. Where is Chuck when you need him?

This really cracked me up...

The Amazing Hyponotist

This is one of my favorites! The group pretends to get hypnotized. They pretend to do ridiculous things. They pretend to make a woman break up with the boyfriend and fall in love with another man (it's OK she actually 'fell in love' with her real boyfriend) but the crowd did not know. They were not pleased!

Suicide Jumper

Maybe we can save a life today, as the Improv Everywhere team of agents talk down a suicide jumper. Crowds gather as one agent challenges death as he threatens to jump from a three foot high ledge. Can our agents save him?

No Shirts

Over 100 Improv Everywhere agents walk into an Abercrombe & Fitch store in Manhattan completely shirtless. Just like the company has in their logo. Let's just say that the management of the store was less than thrilled. They wouldn't even let the gentlemen purchase shirts from the store in order to remain in the store. They had to leave, get shirts and return if they wanted to purchase one. Brilliant logic! Rock on Abercrombe!

As a former ad person, I had learned of Improv Anywhere a few years ago when we were exploring non-traditional advertising so it was a pleasant surprise running into this excellently-crafted lens on them! Fantastic tribute to such a groundbreaking movement. (:

Great lens! Even if I am wistful!
I was building a lens on Improv Everywhere, got to picking the URL and -- wait, someone already though of it! I came here expecting to find a lens Under Construction -- the claimed URLs usually are -- only to find you did an excellent job, just the sort of thing I had in mind. I can't top that; it would just be duplicating your work!

So I've sprinkled a rating and enjoyed some of my favorite vids again (The Best Game Ever is my favorite).

Note: when you got the code for my "Shameless Plug" widget, you also hotlinked to icons I have stored on my own server. I don't mind, but in return, you gotta visit the lens I made instead, on the background behind the Antwerp Train Station Sound of Music stunt which I bet you know about -- but I found out a little about where it came from. :)

Best Funeral Ever

The prank of all pranks...

On April Fools Day (April 1st), 2009, Improv Everywhere was at it again... but who was the prank really on? The group decided to attend a random funeral and pretend that they knew the dearly departed... Well, not exactly. The "family members" were actually part of the troup as well, however CW11, the news crew that filmed the prank, didn't know that.

People were quite outraged by the prank... until they realized that the entire thing was staged. You can read the commentary on You Tube or at Improv Everywhere's Website.
