Writing articles is one of the easiest methods of generating free website traffic. I'm not talking about writing the next version of Harry Potter. You can write an article between 300 - 500 words about anything you choose.

In order for it to have the most impact in terms of driving free traffic to your website you will need to focus your article around specific keywords. Keywords that your targeted audience would search for in Google. I can not put enough emphasis on doing quality Keyword Research. It is the foundation of any article marketing effort.

Keyword density is important but don't go overboard. I have seen people use their keywords so much that the articles are unreadable. It's better to have a credible article than one they can't decifer.

Always remember your article serves two purposes.

1. Get indexed by the search engine under specific keywords.

2. Drive the reader to you site after they read it. People have to enjoy the article enough to follow the links to your website.

3. Keep your message on the web for ever. Most article sites allow other website owners to use your article on their site. They must use it in it's entirety with no changes and include your signature. Did someone say free links to your site?

I know I said 2. But the 3rd one is a really good point.

Once you have written your article you will need to submit it to an Article Directory. You can submit your articles for free. Some let you put links in your text. All of them will allow you to put a link in your signature.
