Your website is soooo cool! It has all the bells and whistles a visitor could possibly want, but.......did you do your keyword research?? Keyword research is one of those things that website owners loathe, but it is so necessary.
To increase traffic to your site, please, please, PLEASE do your keyword research! Without the right keywords, you might as well not even build a web site! If traffic is the life blood of your site, then keywords are the arteries and veins that carry that blood!
You don't have to own the latest and greatest keyword research tool in order to find the info that you need. Just use Google's free keyword tool. Go to Google and do a search for "google keyword tool" (without quotes).
While inside the tool, enter you keyword or keyword phrase. Uncheck the "Use Synonyms" box, and type in the characters to verify that you are a human. Then click "Get keyword ideas". In seconds, Google gives you more than enough info to choose the best keywords for your site.
You want to see, at the most, 15,000 under the Global Monthly Search Volume column. This is an average of searches for your keyword (KW) or keyword phrase (KWP) for the last 12 months.
Now you need to see how much competition you are up against.

Having competition for your KWP is a good thing. You see those ads on the right side of a Google search page? The owners of those ads are willing to bid on the KWP you just searched for because that KWP is bringing them sales. If the owners were losing money by having those ads there, then the ads wouldn't be there!
But how do we know who we really are up against? Search for your KWP in quotes in Google. You want less than 25,000 results to show up; but you are not done yet. Most 'gurus' just stop there in their explanation of keyword research, but we will dig a little deeper.
Now type this into Google:
intitle:"KWP" inanchor:"KWP"
NOTE: Replace KWP with your keyword phrase. Make sure there is a space in between the first KWP and the word 'inanchor'. No other spaces!
This search tells you how many pages are optimizing for that KWP by including it in their title and in their anchor text (the word(s) you click on to follow a link). This is your real competition! You want to see less than 100 pages for the result of this search.
