How to build your Incubator!

Learn to build the cheapest incubators!

First off you will need Two containers of the same size and a small water heater. First take your heater and put it in the center of the first container. If you are worried about safety go to a hardware store and buy a clamp piece the goes around a pipe and use one on each end to keep the heater off the plastic.

Once you have the heater positioned pour in enough 80 degree water to completely submerge the heater. Set the heater to go off at 80 degrees. Then put in 4 equal sized supports to support the second container. Then rest your second container on the supports. Now have to add water in the first container till it half full and "TA-DA!" you got yourself a incubator! Your incubator should look like this:

Now the only thing to do is put your jars in and cover it with a blanket. If you notice your jars aren't colonizing on the bottom but are at the top just turn them upside down for a few days. This should get rid of some CO2 in the bottom.

I built the incubator, but I have an issue with the inner box floating as water is added instead of the the water coming up halfway the inner box. How do I address this issue with the incubator setup.

um if you have something that can hold 20 jars, you can always put LESS than 20 in there.
  • Catherine Mar 7, 2012 @ 4:54 pm | delete
Nice! But can it be smaller? Would if you don't want 20 jars?

NOT ALL MUSHROOMS CAN BE BOUGHT FROM A STORE ALSO YOU CAN MAKE MONEY SELLING YOUR OWN BTW IF YOU KNEW ANYTHIN HERE IS THE DEFINITION TO AN INCUBATOR in·cu·ba·tor/ˈinkyəˌbātər/Noun1. An enclosed apparatus providing a controlled environment for the care of premature babies.
    2. An apparatus used to hatch eggs or grow MICROORGANISMS under controlled conditions. Sso next time you go on a web site to throw stones why dont you do your research instead of blasting on about something you are clueless about

To solve the floating inner tub problem, I used plastic cable ties to secure the tubs to eachother from the top. To create holes for the cable ties to go through, I heated a screw driver on the gas stove until it was hot enough to melt through plastic and presto.
