From the lens blue collar workers are indispensable.

This is a fantastic tribute to all the blue collar workers out there. It's sad that their hard work isn't appreciated enough but there are a lot of them who are brilliant in what they do. *blessed by an angel*

I so love seeing what new subjects are dealt with in Squidoo lenses; this is a great one. (Might even make a great Hey Monkey Brains lens question.) Congrats on the purple star.
As Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than education!" Albert and I give you 5 purple stars and 1 bird.

Unless you are sure of what you want to do, you probably shouldn't be in college. It takes too much time and money to try to figure it out once you get there. There are so many other options!

Great idea for a lens, and I totally agree that college is not for everyone, although I would not have missed it. It was one of the most fun times in my life.

What would the world be without those indispensable blue collar workers? A mess is what. You are so right, not everyone is meant to go to college. It isn't their calling in life, their gift doesn't necessarily require academics but it is necessary just the same. I've known some bricklayers who were artists in their own right. Superbly done lens!

I absolutely agree! I'm not sorry I went to college -- living on campus at UCLA enriched my life, exposed me to new ideas, and introduced me to my husband. It didn't do a lot to prepare me to be a bookseller. Working in a bookstore did that. Would I go to college again? Yes, if I could duplicate the experience I had. Might I have been just as well off to take the job of branch assistant job I was offered in the Bellflower Public Library when I was 19 -- I probably would, though I would not have met my husband.

I think those who really want to go to college and are able should go. But many people are better off spending the money to start a business of their own or learn a trade they enjoy. As you say, auto mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, and others who follow their inclinations are indispensable.

No, I do not think a College Education is for everyone and it sure isn't necessary to achieve success in one's chosen field. I admire and respect those who can find happiness and success in any field. Excellent subject.

I absolutely agree with you. I'm a big proponent of vocational education and also believe that we are all given gifts we should use, despite the educational level required. Certainly people should not look down on people who have less education but apply themselves 100 percent in their work, which is a true sign of great character.

It is indeed insulting to any worker to say that their job is not "real" if they are doing something that is really needed.

If truck-driving is not a "real" career, then I guess we don't really need those drivers. Us high-falutin' college graduates can just hop into our cars and pick up our merchandise ourselves straight from the factory in Ohio. Oh, but wait a minute, there isn't a factory any more because factory work isn't a "real" career either, so all the factory workers went off to college and they're lawyers and MBAs now. So we'll just have to make the products ourselves from the raw materials. We can do it!

I am very proud to be the wife of a high school graduate who works for UPS.

    Great lens!
