Individual Health Insurance Plans

Whether you are an individual, or you have a family to consider, you will not want to wait until you need insurance to start looking for it. A little planning and research will insure that you get the most coverage and the best price.

Individual Health Insurance Plans

Finding individual health insurance plans has never been easier.

It used to be that you where limited to your local insurance company. Not so anymore with the internet. It is very easy to shop and compare health insurance plans. There are still people who will just ride down to the local office and buy a policy. These people will not get the best deal or the best coverage!

Even though there are deals to be had, there are also scam artists out there. Buying health insurance for individuals is no different than buying anything else. There are certain things that you have to beware of. Let's take a look at a few to help you make the right decision.

Get a copy of brochure.

It could also be a web site or just a pamphlet. You just need to make sure that it has prices, coverages, and exclusions.

Understand the Coverage

The basic and common health care coverage that you will need and must be included in your policy are the following:

Physician consultation and treatment
Hospital care
Authorized hospitals and clinics
Immunization
Laboratory tests such as Complete Blood Count, X-rays and other pertinent lab exams
Vision care
Dental care
Specialty health care for outpatients
Minor surgery
Prescribed medications

Women have additional basic and common coverage such as:

Gynecological test such as Pap Smears and Mammograms
Pre-natal and Post-natal consultation
Well-baby care

Below are lists of some common exclusions on individual health insurance coverage:

Pre-existing conditions (there are companies who grant insurance coverage under this condition however there is a specific waiting period which is normally six to twelve months).
Aesthetic surgery
Mental health care

Fine Print

This gets us in trouble a lot. Make sure that you are looking at everything. If there are other documents, you will need to read and understand them. Especially the ones that you will be signing.

Refund policy.
Can you get out if you find a better deal, or just found out that you made a mistake? Make sure that you are aware of any penalties.

Set an Appointment

Once you have familiarized yourself with the terms and conditions written on your coverage policy, it is recommended that you set an appointment with a representative of your preferred health insurance company.

It is also important to ask company representative if you have the option to select particular coverage that will be beneficial to you. Individual health insurance coverage is most likely open to negotiation with some of the policy's requirements. Flexibility is a good thing when it comes to getting the most bang for your buck.

Individual health insurance is no different than any other insurance. You hope that you rarely use it, but when you need it, you will want it to be perfect, as you will have enough to worry about.
