A radical group Islamic Defenders Front are forcing churches to lose. The people living in West Java turn to the shopping centre to hold their meetings.
Facts about opening churches in West Java:
-only of churches have official permits to hold services
- 90% of signatures of support from their non-Christian neighbours can sign to allow churches to open (In fact very few in any sign!).
The Pasudnan church has been holding services in a suburb of Bandung for more than 60 years; its pastor is Olbertina Modesta. Last November the Pasundan church was attacked by a group of local Muslims.
Pastor Olbertina Modesta doesn't believe this is simply a bureaucratic row. She says "I believe its not about the permits but about being Christian" Respectively, she is correct. Relatively Islam is meant to be about 'peace' and unity etc. The Muslims of
West Java fails to abide by that doctrine. There is no great or strict law stating that Christianity is NOT allowed there. Unfortunately Muslims attitudes towards Christians living there is quite appalling.
My question is that if West Java is not strict on religious practices, what is the real need for 'signatures' and or petitions 'of any sort? No religious group has a right to treat any individual of any faith badly. In this case I believe action is needed to be taken%u2026where, when, how? Who knows?
It's not the first time Muslims (radical or not) have shown appalling attitudes towards the non-religious and other religious members of the public. Take for example the Islamic protest in London. Many may remember the signs many Muslims held up stating that many who mocked their god should be' beheaded'????!!!!!! Obviously not all Muslims have this attitude towards the public.
On a personal level I believe that any individual or group with a strong belief and devotion to a god should trust in that god to deal with whatever 'injustice' they face. Whatever faith they're in. Have a great week!
