Honestly, very few people have a hovercraft and even fewer would have the knowledge needed to build one, but not you. Believe it or not you will be gliding around on your very own hovercraft very soon, so get excited!

In this first section i want to deflate that small niggling voice in the back of your head that keeps questioning your ability to build a hovercraft, you may feel that you are not smart enough, or that you can't afford the resources to build one, in my experience this is ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! If you can't read the instructions because you are illiterate or are living in poverty then you are excused, everyone else however i promise you if you follow these instructions you cannot go wrong, it is that simple! All the required resources are easy to use, cheap and easilly acquired, what have you got to lose?

Ok, so if you're still reading this then you're at least considering this crazy hovercraft idea (actually it's not that crazy!).

I want to re-assure you again that everything you need to build this hovercraft is inexpencive and easy to get, and with the right instructions, easy to build, you can do it!

I won't go into the specifics right now but every hovercraft has several basic parts and pieces that it needs to function, just as a bicycle will not work without a front wheel a hovercraft has a few main components.

1. Fan System - As you may have noticed, all hovercrafts are filled with air(that's the free part, hehe) and surprisingly all you really need to keep this air in your hovercraft is a simple vacuum cleaner, or a leaf blower or similar. I'm sure we could all get access to a old vacuum cleaner or leaf blower, a simple but vital part to your hovercraft.

2. Platform - A platform is basically something for you to stand on, and is used to distribute the air coming through the fan system. It is just a piece of wood or fibreglass that sits on top of your air cushion and provides a structure. Something you could easilly find on a construction site (whoops, i didn't suggest that, hehe) or at your local hardware store.

3. The Skirt - No no, not what your sister wears, the skirt on a hovercraft is basically a big balloon that is flattened underneath the platform and is your air cushion which provides the lift for your craft. Thick plastic sheets work best and will ensure a smooth ride on land, or perhaps on water... you decide :).

4. Propeller System - This can consist of excess air from your fan system being used to propell your craft forward. As you are 'floating on air' the propulsion needed is not as much as you would expect. You would also be wise to install a steering system as well, this merely comprises of a few handle bars and a rudder at the back, you can easilly improvise everyday objects into your system as there are no right or wrong ways to go about this.

Well there you have it, the very basic hovercraft sections and a brief descriptions of what sort of materials you may need to build it. As you can see all those pieces of equipment are not that hard to acquire and are very affordable.
