How To Use Internet Radio Interviews to Market Your Business

Is being a guest on Internet radio shows worthwhile?
By Lorraine Cohen

The Internet has provided a venue for people to spread the word easily. Recently, internet radio programs have sprung up in astronomical numbers making it possible for anyone in business to reach people worldwide.

Did you know that 60 million people will download podcasts by 2010? That's probably a conservative estimate. Apple reported over 1 million podcast subscribers in just two days on iTunes.

Here are three impressive statistics from
Arbitron Inc. /Edison Media Research 2006 study:

* More than one in five has listened to Internet Radio in the past month.
* 41% of online radio listeners have visited a website due to an ad!
* Radio web site visitors are highly loyal, with two-thirds of station web site
visitors visiting weekly and nearly a quarter visiting daily.

Internet radio is one of the most cost- effective ways to market your product, service and message to large audiences worldwide by building credibility, providing incredible value, and positioning yourself as an expert that can result in significant revenue. Exposure through radio increases the potential to new strategic alliances, referral partnerships, business opportunities, as well as new clients.

One of the best ways to promote a product or service you believe in that will also improve the quality of people's lives is to become a guest, skillful at delivering high quality content in an informative, entertaining way.

There are some additional benefits to "shine" as a radio guest including developing self-confidence, branding, honing your presentation skills and having fun speaking about what you love!

To maximize your effectiveness using internet radio guest interviews as a marketing tool, there are some things to consider:

* Why do you want to be a guest?
* What are your areas of expertise?
* What do you want to accomplish?
* What topics are you passionate about?
* What value do you want people to receive from your presentation?

And what many people don't do is clearly define who their ideal audience is. Without knowing specifically who your audience is and what their needs and problems are, tailoring a compelling presentation and finding the venues that are a fit for your market becomes more difficult.

The challenge many professionals have is that they are not prepared to use radio to their fullest advantage because they have not taken the time to identify who wants and needs what they have to offer, how to deliver high quality content, and how to reach them.

Invest in doing your homework so that when you actively pursue radio bookings, you'll benefit your market and distinguish yourself as a great guest so that hosts will want to invite back again and again
