Turn on any television and we will see more shows about mediums, ghostbusters, psychic detectives and the list goes on. Psychic information is being utilized to help police investigators solve crimes, Mediums are assisting people to make contact with the other side in support of establishing closure and peace of mind with regards to the passing of their loved ones.

For many years there had been so much bad press and ridicule about anything psychic - even as many of us know that the seeds of this ridicule were intentionally planted long ago to dissuade people from paying attention to and honouring their own psychic senses. Residues of religious persecution are present through the internalized attitudes and feelings of fear which arise related to anything of a psychic nature.

It is refreshing to see that we are finally entering a social period and a developmental stage in our collective history when we can identify just how being psychic benefits us as we the dispel myths and heal the fears which have had so many of us denying these types of experiences and consequently not listening to our own hearts and instincts. Is it any wonder there has been the resistances to listening to and valuing such input from others?

We are all psychic, and yet as more people are having increasing psychic experiences - many often feel confused and seek to understand more fully what their experiences mean and how can they practically utilize these abilities in ways which improves the quality of life rather than the contrary?

Some feel ostracised or considered strange if/when they share their psychic feelings or impressions with others. If being psychic causes confusion or upsets us we are then likely to resist listening to what is often important guidance for our lives.

As with any skill, we must practice it consistently if we are going to become more comfortable and confident with it. It is one thing to be psychic and yet another to effectively interpret what we receive. And then of course we need to have effective communication skills if we are going to be successful in sharing these types of experiences with others in ways that are mutually beneficial to all concerned.

If you want to make more sense of your experiences and are ready to have your inner psychic supported to thrive more fully in life. We invite your questions - and welcome you to share your experiences with us. Tell us what you would like to know in support of being psychic!

Psychic Senses - Modes of Perception

Description of Psychic Senses by Alana Tobin

The following psychic senses are spiritual gifts from the Creator Source and are inherent in each one of us. Religious persecution seeded a deep fear in people that continues to live within the collective psyche. Healing these memory patterns of trauma is critical in order to heal the fear and judgment associated with our psychic abilities. These psychological and cultural barriers have resulted in many people denying or ignoring psychic information which is consistently present within and all around us.

Seeing/Clairvoyant: This sense opens us to an inner seeing which may involve the following: The ability to see auras, geometric shapes and symbols, seeing colors and lights, thought-forms, non-physical entities and/or seeing the future (life scenarios before they occur).

Hearing/Clairaudient: This sense assists us in hearing the inner life of Spirit. You may be open to hearing that which is beyond the physical realm and which is out of the range of normal perception. This sense can allow you to hear messages from Spirit teachers, Guides and Angels. This inner hearing may include hearing words of guidance, sounds in nature, music, or the voice of people you know and who are communicating psychically with you.

Telepathy/Thought Transference: This sense assists us in perceiving thoughts outside of your own. The distinction between inner hearing and telepathy is that you may not hear a voice, but instead, think the thoughts in your mind. Telepathy involves thought impressions which may involve words or images. Many animals communicate in this way. Often psychics or channels will speak about receiving a download of information from a higher source. Frequently they say the information comes in thought packages akin to a software program.

Feeling/Clairsentient: This sense assists us in perceiving in a feeling way or through sensing in a physical manner. You may have a 'gut feeling' about something or experience chills/goose bumps as confirmation of sensing something. Clairsentience is easy to deny as people often deny their uncomfortable emotional and physical feelings.

Knowing/Claircognizant: This sense assists us in knowing about something or someone. We may not have any understanding of how or why, and for no reason at all, 'we just know'. This knowing may involve anything from detailed scientific data or the knowing of information of a more personal or spiritual nature as it involves the self, another, the group, or anything in creation.

Sensing/Clairempathy: This sense assists us in sensing or feeling the thoughts, feelings or attitudes of others or an environment. An 'empath' is sensitive to the emotional or physical pain of others, and/or can sense an impending circumstance or event.

Psychometry: involves the ability to read or sense impressions within an object or environment. Many psychics utilize this sense in order to help the police to investigate crime scenes and the physical and emotional evidence left behind. Always protect yourself when opening to psychic information and energy, as you can make yourself vulnerable to disturbing energies and information, which could ultimately result in your taking on the illness or psychological symptoms of others.

Smelling/Clairscent: This sense assists us in smelling odors, foods, tobacco, or fragrances not in one's surroundings. A psychic scent can also signify the presence of a high being as in the case of Mother Mary and the scent of roses that often accompanies her presence.

Tasting/Clairsavorant: This sense assists us in perceiving a taste that is apart from tasting something physically. Often a smell may accompany the sensitivity to taste.

How Psychic Are YOU?

And How often do you receive psychic cues in day to day life?

Most people have psychic experiences, and yet seldom if acknowledge just how much psychic information they receive on a regular basis, even daily. I find that when we start paying attention to how often we perceive this type of information, we can begin to track it in ways that it can help us to connect the dots of our experiences. We can make more sense of what is really occurring rather than rely on what others define or interpret as reality.

At times we have periods when we allow ourselves to be more open, times when we welcome insights because we are in pain, or are challenging circumstances. We become more sensitive and perhaps even vulnerable because life has a way of getting under our skin. Therefore we may have stronger psychic knowing during times of loss, or during life transitions. We will often also have strong psychic experiences that cue us to important information as it relates to those we love such as what happens to them impacts us because we are close to our family and have strong ties with good friends. Our soul's at times will present us with stronger psychic feelings as a way of getting us in touch with how we can best relate with our loved ones or how we may reach out to support one another during times of challenge or change.

Pregnant women as well as new mothers often have strong psychic or telepathic experiences connected with their children because they need to be so very present for their new borns and being sensitive to their children in this way helps them to discern what and meet their child's needs. Also many of the children coming in now are very advanced in terms of being very psychic. These little ones challenge us at times to expand beyond our human limits. Children who are sensitive can help us to remember what it is to be in touch with what is beyond the physical and yet a part of it, as well as helping us to get more in touch with our hearts.

Children will also often have invisible friends and be able to hear, see or know things that many adults would seldom even consider talking about much less allow into their own experience. Yet the children need to be able to be whole, and being psychic is a natural part of their being. We all need to move thru and beyond these attitudes, as well as the fears and the repressive attitudes which have had us resisting and rejecting these psychic abilities. It can be challenging for parents to relate with their children in ways that are honouring of what they perceive, and yet we all need to return to a more sane and healthy way of being that honours and allows that we can share what we perceive.

God perfectly designed us all to be as open systems in touch with all of our senses so we can be sensitive to and in full communication with life. As we allow ourselves to nurture and grow these abilities we will gradually be able to utilize them in ways which will ultimately support us to heal and restore many of our relationships.

Sometimes we are open to being psychic, its cool, its fun, and there are really good feelings associated with our experiences, and at other times it can be confusing, even scary. When uncertain feelings are present due to negative messages we have internalized we may hide our true feelings or what we sense and know to be true. Because we are invested in keeping our relationships in harmony, we may be reluctant to share our inner knowing because it is more important to fit in. Rather than rock the boat we may just deny our inner knowing and feelings and consequently adapt to circumstances grinning and bearing it.

So to cope, we may shut off our senses or talk ourselves out of what we know to be true, to keep the peace or to keep circumstances at a level because if we know too much, and disclose that it could upset others, and then we would be upset and then what? Being psychic often will require from us that we be more honest, forthright and responsible, and we may need to grow more courage and confidence before we can be so real and direct.

At times we may welcome long periods of ongoing psychic experiences because they are not challenging us so much. However at other times when there are difficulties, we may try to shut it off, this may then have us entering prolonged periods when we seldom have psychic experiences. If we can simply acknowledge that it was us that closed the door on our senses, we can start to feel a sense of relief. It will be freeing and empowering for us when we can sort through the feelings that have us denying or rejecting what we know, because as we allow ourselves to be an open psychic system, we will be guided how to live our life in ways more harmonious. We can then connect the dots to our experiences and make more sense of our lives and our world.

If others try to label us as crazy for hearing voices, we can see that it is them that are uncomfortable with psychic perceptions, and we can have compassion for them. They can help us to reflect where we may have fear and judgement ourselves about being psychic, so we can make changes in our own attitudes and feelings. We may be tempted to turn away from our psychic senses, to turn away from people at such time; however if we can have a sense of humour about it all, we can temper these feelings. If we can take the time to examine these feelings, we can shift them to positive ones instead.

If or when others think we are just plain weird or spooky because we see things that they don't, they may feel we are at an advantage that can feel to be an uncomfortable threat and may also pose a challenge for them in terms of their concept of reality. Just think if someone could see through you, if you were not ready to be seen you may flinch or try to shift attention away from your self.

Gees...no wonder - some may think just as we do at times..am I psycho...or psychic? Is she/he? HEE HEE!
