What Is Investor Relation?

The decision of whether or not to take your company public can be a very difficult one to make. While there are many benefits of operating as a public company, whose shares can be traded, bought and sold on the public markets, there are also many additional responsibilities that much be filled. When you are a private company, the only investors that you have to worry about satisfying might be yourself, your brother and a family friend. However, when you have a public company, anyone with enough money might be able to buy your shares, which means you will have to learn how to maintain strong investor relations.

If you've never heard of the concept of investor relations before, you should know that at its core, it is a commitment to a strong communications management policy between a company and its investors. The company must realize that there needs to be a strong two-way dialogue between the investors and the executives at the company that are making decisions about how to use the money they've invested. Although you might not always be able to report good news to your investors, it is absolutely essential that you make every effort to remain in good standing with your financial community, and publics.

Communication Make Company Trusted To Be Honest 

If you choose to go public with your company while you are still relatively small, or you take your company public with few financial needs, your obligation to investor relations are likely to be pretty simply for the first couple of years. However, it is important to remember that how you handle both successes and failures will start to create a legacy for your company that will be noticed by the market. Those that appreciate the way that you handle the responsibility of communication will tell their colleagues that you are a company that can be trusted to be honest.
