Chivalry and Romance - Does It Only Belong In Medieval Times?
The Definition of Chivalry:
1. Gallantry, courtesy and honor.
2. The noble qualities a knight was supposed to have, such as courage and a readiness to help the weak.
3. The demonstration of any of these qualities.
When many think of the word chivalry they think of Knights of the Medieval World of Old. Charging around the countryside on White Steeds and saving damsels in distress, and helping the weak.
True enough, It was a very Romantic time.
But what about today?
The first definition of chivalry is Gallantry, courtesy and honor. In today's world, Chivalry is a choice. In a world of strong aggressive women that compete in what is thought of as a man's world, the act of chivalry may be daunted. Overshadowed by competition, chivalry may very well be dead.
This world we live in is filled with stress, greed, sadness, war, conflict, and every other bad thing you can think of. Women are often mistreated, even abused.
Is that it? Is that all there is?
NO WAY!!!
What about romance, love, first love, marriage, babies, respect, friendship, success, accomplishment, goals, LOVE!! (It bore repeating.)
So what about Chivalry? Holding the door for a women, seating a women at a table, helping her on with her coat, carrying the heavy packages, carrying the light packages, kissing away her tears, buying her flowers and on and on and on.
The bottom line is respect.
Respect for each other. If a man is going to go to all the trouble to ride around on a white steed, shouldn't the women make sure he knows just how wonderful it is to be treated like that? Both sides need to exert that extra effort.
Is too much? Can it really be accomplished? Maybe it is just too hard, too much work, no fun at all.

Romance And Love Does it Matter Anymore?
Do men and women have the ability to communicate in that romantic way of old? Do women even like feeling cherished and taken care of? Or have we become a world of competing rivals? What do you think?
Is Chivalry dead?

Yes! I don't need any of that wimpy stuff!
ClassyGals says:
Unfortunately, yes, chivalry is dead. Anyone who goes out in the real world knows this. It's a me society.
noone says:
yes a lot! it's high time we exterminate this infectious disease of chivalry and restore gender equality and bias-less world
Someone says:
What did it mean anyway? Let's say a woman reaches the door first. Should she not open the door at all and instead just stand there like it is rocket science? Should she open the door for herself and slam the door shut behind her? Now let's say the man reaches the door first, with his female partner, but there are men and women behind his female partner. Should he shut the door on them? What I am trying to say is that it is politeness and manners that we are talking about. They matter. A woman should demonstrate similar manners towards her male partner. It is not a woman's prerogative merely based on her gender. Nobody should entitled to anything merely based on their gender. Both partners must treat each other with care and respect. That's what makes it a partnership! An unequal relationship, ranges from exploitation to slavery.
ColorPetGifts says:
I am posting on this side cuz this debate is leaning so heavily to the right :) But it seems with good reason; my husband would take me off into the sunset on a horse - if we had a horse. Since he doesn't, he carries me himself as needed. His heart is as good as gold; I know he would open the door for me just because he is who he is. Thankfully yes, chivalry is very much alive in my home.
Why? says:
Noo Duh
No! It is alive and living in my home.
surfer1969 says:

suzy-t says:
..on life suppport, maybe ! but certainly not dead. I sure hope chivalry pulls through because it makes the world a better place ...
MaryStuart says:
Chivalry may not be as common as it once way but I do not think it is dead (at least I hope not!).
Reddawg2012 says:
Alas, chivalry is resting as comfortably as can be expected for a man of his age, and, though his health is deteriorating, he manages to occasionally sit up and eat a little soup, according to his brother, Rivalry. Our prayers are with you, Chiv.
jercow75 says:
No. There is plenty of good left in this world. I've often been given a hand when my arms are full of children, and I believe firmly in opening a door for a woman. And it always seems appreciated.
00saurabhjha11 says:
No Not at all Womens are stil taken care of sometimes in form of our mother sometimes as our lady sometimes as Your siblings and I am sure women like it too .... Yes the rivalry has come into action but they have different forms
reasonablerobinson says:
I still believe it exists. The news relies on telling us bad things about society and culture and so with 24/7 coverage we get a skewed view of reality. As well as common courtesy, chivalry is a good thing. The academic feminist perspective that it is a token of male domination is disingenuous. It is an example of care for others (in this case females) that acts as a model for good manners and respect for anyone.

21st Century Modern Man
It would seem the age of chivalry is dead. But is it? In an age when it is difficult to know what it is to be a man. The answer may have arrived. A Gentleman. A true Knight in shiining armor. The model for true 21st century masculinity. A Great read.

- I used to hate having a man open the door for me when I was younger. I was thinking that I was not a wimp and that I was perfectly capable of doing it myself thank you very much.
Now if a man does hold a door open, I smile and say thank you.
There are NOT enough men around who are polite and respectful to women.
Most men (males) of my generation just cut in front of me, barge through the door ahead of head and dont bother to look and see if anyone is coming through that same door behind them.
