Italian verb conjugation - Present tense of some regular Italian verbs
Ranked #2,389 in Education, #56,401 overall
Hello! Would you like to learn how to conjugate the present tense of some regular Italian verbs? Yes? Ok!! So, just stay here, I'll teach you.
Also, visit my new Italian language course blog, in which I'll periodically post little lessons.
Arrivederci!!
The three Italian verb conjugation categories
The regular Italian verbs, namely, all those that follow a particular pattern for their conjugation, are grouped into three categories, called:
- First conjugation
- Second conjugation
- Third conjugation
All the regular verbs whose infinitive ends in "are", belong to the first conjugation.
Example: amare, parlare.
All the regular verbs whose infinitive ends in "ere", belong to the second conjugation.
Example: chiudere, prendere.
All the regular verbs whose infinitive ends in "ire", belong to the third conjugation.
Example: dormire, sentire.
With this page, I am going to conjugate only the present tense of some common regular Italian verbs ending in "are".
The next two pages are entirely dedicated to:
- the conjugation of the present tense of some regular Italian verbs ending in "ere";
- the conjugation of the present tense of some regular Italian verbs ending in "ire" (under construction).
How to conjugate the present tense of regular verbs ending in "are"?
Any regular verb, such as "amare"
consists of two parts: the stem and the ending.
In the verb amare, the stem is am and the ending is are.
Precisely because amare is a regular verb (as I mentioned at the beginning), it follows a particular pattern for the conjugation of its present tense; therefore, we are going to replace the are ending with the endings related to each particular person:
For the first person singular "Io" we'll replace are with o
For the second person singular "Tu" we'll replace are with i
For the second person singular "Lei" we'll replace are with a
For the third person singular "Lui/Lei/Esso" we'll replace are with a
For the first person plural "Noi" we'll replace are with iamo
For the second person plural "Voi" we'll replace are with ate
For the third person plural "Loro" we'll replace are with ano

- Very inspiring lens: actually, as Italian mothertongue (and Italian teacher in Denmark) I didn´t need to learn Italian verbs, but you suggested interesting books, and I´m going to check them out to see if I can use one of those with my students. Grazie!
