Get Funky With The Godfather of Soul!

Celebrity Friends remember James Brown:

"What James Brown was to music in terms of soul and hip-hop, rap, all of that, is what Bach was to classical music. This is a guy who literally changed the music industry. He put everybody on a different beat, a different style of music. He pioneered it."  Rev. Al Sharpton

"He was a whirlwind of energy and precision, and he was always very generous and supportive to me in the early days of the Stones. His passing is a huge loss to music." Mick Jagger

"No one has ever integrated music, musicianship, dance and showmanship so effectively as did J.B. Every rap, hip-hop, house, soul, R&B, rock and pop artist practicing today has been influenced compositionally and choreographically by Mr. Brown. Fortunate were those of us who were able to engage his talents and witness his latest shows. The greatest on-stage revue of music in the history of our planet." Dan Aykroyd

"He was an innovator, he was an emancipator, he was an originator. Rap music, all that stuff came from James Brown." Little Richard

I had a good friend who was a huge James Brown fan. I think he had ALL of his albums (first edition, too). He was one of the few people I knew at the time that loved soul and R&B as much as I did (still do).

So, listen here, do some homework, and find your favorites. The Godfather of Soul may have moved on to a better place, but he left behind the greatest gift: his music.

Enjoy!

The Wisdom Of James Brown

"The one thing that can solve most of our problems is dancing"

"Sometimes you struggle so hard to feed your family one way, you forget to feed them the other way, with spiritual nourishment. Everybody needs that."

"When I'm on stage, I'm trying to do one thing: bring people joy. Just like church does. People don't go to church to find trouble, they go there to lose it."

"It doesn't matter how you travel it, it's the same road. It doesn't get any easier when you get bigger, it gets harder. And it will kill you if you let it."

"Here on the ground, our job is not done."

James Brown- "Ain't it Funky Now"

James Brown "Ain't it Funky Now", Paris 1971

RIP. Did you enjoy the live album "Love Power Peace" ? Well, have fun. JB with probably his best band ever featuring the Collins brothers (Catfish and, yes, a young yet already amazing BOOTSY!). Too bad the recording is a little old. I post it here as a tribute to James, who left this world for a funkier one last christmas (25/12/2006).
