Or Are They Like Peanut Butter and Jam?
A comparison between HubPages and Squidoo that will evolve as this lensmaker learns.
Is One Better or Just Different?
Let's find out!
- Hubpages has a cash out minimum of $100.
- Squidoo pays out in amounts as low as $1.
- Although producers with enough hubs and a high enough rank apparently go to DoFollow, the start out NoFollow, whereas Squidoo is apparently DoFollow from the beginning.
- Hubby shares a a bit more of the revenue with its producers, giving us 50% to the Squid's 50%
- Compensation for referrals is different, with Squidoo paying a flat one-time fee whereas Hubpages rewards you for sending traffic to other publishers and 10% of your referral page views. Over time that could end up being a bit more.
- There are differences in how the whole AdSense thing is handled. More on that if and when I figure it out, but one obvious difference is that there is more required reading needed before one even thinks of composing a hub, whereas a lens can pretty much be tossed of the cuff. That doesn't means it should be, however.
- Hubpages discourages us from publishing unfinished hubs. There is a reason for that as in order to earn well (and pay well) they need to please the GoogleBot.
On the other hand, the feeling I've gotten so far is that Squidoo is OK with my starting a lens and then adding changes later on. At least they haven't yelled at me yet. This lens may be pushing the limit, but it is one way to find out! - Squidoo still EXISTS and Hubbie doesn't? Wowsers. I just got approved by the Google Monster because Hubbie seemed to thrive on Adsense, and then I went on a short trip and came back to find no trace of my one and only hub. What Happened?
I Need to Feel Cozy When I Write
I Can't Help it!
I remember in the olden days when computers were pretty much in their infancy, and everyone in connection with them wanted to act like a control freak. So I spent my whole "corporate life" so to speak trying to break down those barriers and to enable people. Being able to write one's own thoughts and publish them online freely is about the most amazing thing that has happened in the past century. The idea that it is possible to pick up a little pocket change at the same time simply blows my mind.So while it is true that if I really needed some money, I'd probably put shoes on and go get a real job, I'm learning all that I can learn about Paid-to-Write opportunities online for the same reason that some people are compelled to climb mountains: BECAUSE THEY ARE THERE!
