Wonderland is over, Jamberoo Recreation Park and Luna Park are Sydneys best hope
I'm not one to shed a negative light but when Wonderland shut down, a part of me shut down with it like my childhood, or maybe faith in Sydney amusement parks.
At that time Jamberoo Recreation Park wasn't what it is today and Luna Park just wasn't great enough to fill the void, but after careful thought and even working at one of these places (Luna Park) I have concluded that Jamberoo Recreation Park is very similar to Wonderland in terms of ride creativeness, family togetherness and overall fun factor, while Luna Park fails to make me smile(i only smiled when I got paid for working there)
If you learn one thing about Jamberoo Recreation Park and Wonderland, I hope it's this
The classic Wonderland family fun experience can be duplicated at Jamberoo Recreation Park and my childhood can be restored. Not like the soul sucking, vomit fest at Luna Park(lucky I wasn't employed to mop up those god forsaken protein spills)Lets compare the important stuff!
Thrill Rides
Wonderland had 3 roller coasters, the Bush Beast; 975 metre long wooden roller coaster, the Beastie; half the size and fun of the Bush Beast and Demon; A Vekoma Boomerang steel roller coaster that was so great, when Wonder land closed down the Demon was dismantled and shipped to Alabama Adventure Theme Park, renamed as Zoomerang and it is still thrilling customers. Hurray fun for all.

Jamberoo doesn't technically have roller coasters, but it does have the Taipan; a large, tube water slide that is pitch black inside and made to look like a giant snake from the outside, the Mountain Toboggans; land bobsleds that run on 2 metal tracks down a hill, and the Surf Hill; An 8 lane aqua racer, similar to the one at Wet'n'Wild Water World.. Woohoo value for money and time.
And Luna Park has the Wild Mouse, a tiny, 60 second roller coaster that only inspires a *yawn*, Boooo hiss hisss.
Water Rides
Wonderland had the Snowy River Rampage; A river rapid that you could ride on a large 6 person round raft, and The Beach; a man made, you guessed it, beach! Friggen awesome!

Jamberoo has Rapid River; slowly moving river ride with heaps of rubber tubes!, and Outback Bay; A 2.5 megalitre wave pool like The Beach!
Luna Park has.... umm.. Goin' Fishin', which is not a ride, it's a side-show game where you fish a prize out of a tank? That's "exciting" You'll have more fun falling into the water under Sydney Hardour bridge.
Price

Wonderland had a price structure similar to Jamberoo has now where you pay an entry fee to the park and all rides are free. I forgot how much the entry fee was, if anyone remembers please share! Comments on the bottom please.
Jamberoo as of April 2009 Adult are $37 children and seniors are $29 and Children under 3 are free. Check Prices here These are entry price and all rides inside are free. Food and souvenir are extra.
Luna Park as of April 2009 have different price structure to the above. Entree is free, everything else you have to pay for. They have special deal for this April. $30 rides pass all day. And that is $18 off the usual price! So that means patrons above the height of 130cm are usually prices at $48. Well I guess reasonable for tourists from countries with better money exchange. But for us poor locals it's a wallet buster. Food souvenirs and games are extra, no suprise there.
My final thought
By now you have probably noticed my bias in favor to Jamberoo recreation Park. I guess this is true because I work a number of years at Luna Park and knowing what happens behind the scene makes me want to throw a bunch of little brats on a Wild mouse ride and not put the breaks on at the end of the ride.. only kidding.
Jamberoo rocks!

Well, not literally. But I am attacking this Squidoo web stuff like a lion. My claws out (lady hands) and my ferocious roar... (more)
