Earth is Ready for Peace, are We?
How I met James Twyman
One Day in the Desert
I've had the priviledge of participating in some amazing peace events. The first was in 2000, at a world-wide peace meditation event in south eastern California. There was a round building where James Twyman performed. It was broadcast globally. My friend, my 3 year old daughter, and I arrived early. We walked around inside the peculiar building, literally in the middle of nowhere, and found our way upstairs. There was James, with a few other musicians, playing a native instrument like a long horn that curved at the bottom. The sound was deep and rich. It resonated through the wood of the floor and walls, and even through my body.
James took the time to let people come up and say hello and ask questions, including us. The feeling of cooperation and partnership for peace was established among us before the concert even began.
The concert was centered on the first floor, which was wall to wall people. We went outside, where hundreds were gathered around the building. The windows were open, but surrounded by people. We took our place on the outer edge of the crowd, holding hands, joined in our hearts. The music flowed out from the building and was broadcast to stations all over the world where tens of thousands of others had gathered for this event.
Those of us on the outskirts were not at all left out. We held the circle. We took in all the love in that place and in the music and used our hearts and minds to project it out to the whole world. It was an amazing experience!
After the concert, about a hundred of us went to the largest free-standing rock in the U.S., which had mysteriously split in half only a month before. The Native American shamans said that it was a foretold sign that the time of great change was beginning. Four Native American Elders prayed to the Four Directions, the Four Winds, and the Elements, honoring Earth and seeking guidance. James Twyman and his fellow musicians played, inviting all of us to join in. Many people brought drums of all sorts, tamborines, and handmade instruments. The air itself was filled with joy as we all sang, danced, and drummed together focused on peace for all beings.
We all prayed for peace, envisioned the world at peace, and chanted a peace song while walking around the great rock. Their were several children present who loved this opportunity to sing and dance freely. They did so with complete abandon!
I'll never forget that day in the desert. It awakened my sense of responsibility for the planet and the condition of the world. I felt more a part of humanity, and less an isolated island. I guess, it planted the seeds of what would later become the foundation of my life and work.
Thank you James, (and Kristy), for that wonderful gift!

See, a New Day is Dawning.
The Beloved Community
James is the president of The Beloved Community, an inter-religious organization that has ordained over 400 ministers of peace around the world, and the founder of The Seminary of Spiritual Peacemaking. The Ultimate goal of the Beloved Community is to demonstrate the Divinity of Life that is revealed every moment of our lives, and in doing so, to create a world of lasting compassion and peace. We are a spiritual and educational church organization that strives to align itself with the teachings of inner peace at the center of every religion and sacred scripture.
The Beloved Community is an extension of and claims its lineage from the first century group known as "The Community of the Beloved Disciple," founded by St. John the Apostle shortly after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. This ancient community has its roots in many other groups throughout history, including the Cathars (Also called the "Church of Love"), and the Knights Templar, as well as several other modern manifestations. Our goal is to fulfill the commission Jesus gave to St. John, asking him to reunite the feminine and masculine aspects of the Christ. Special emphasis is given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene. The Community of the Beloved Disciple has always believed that Divine Revelation is a personal experience that occurs between the individual and God, and is not contingent upon an intermediary priesthood or church. The Beloved Community, though it has its roots in esoteric Christianity, strives to honor all paths to God, especially as they relate to inner and world peace.
James has written ten books including Emissary of Light, Emissary of Love, and the upcoming Hay House release of The Moses Code. He has also produced or directed four films including the award winning Indigo, and will soon release the film version of The Moses Code. May All Beings Know Peace
Did You Hear About the Peace sign on the Whitehouse Lawn?
In May, 2007, James did a peace concert in front of the White House, in Washington, D.C. It was the final stop on a 4-month tour around the world. Here's what happened the next day.(www.communitiesofpeace.org) gathered on the west lawn of the US Capitol to commemorate the Season For Non-Violence. During the ceremony a mile long quilt called "The Children's Cloth of Many Colors" was laid on the grass in the form of an enormous peace sign. The quilt was there for no more than one hour and was then removed.
The next morning a call was received by the Capitol Police asking why there was a peace sign blazed into the grass. In fact, the grass where the quilt lie was greener and longer than the rest of the lawn. The response from around the world has been extraordinary. Please help us spread the word of this miracle. For more information please read the attached emails from James reporting the incident.
"I believe that this miracle was caused by two factors. First of all, there were hundreds of thousands of people focusing on the Capitol ceremony while it was taking place. At one point we actually held hands around the peace sign and called upon the energy of all those people from around the world, feeling their presence around the quilt with us. The intent of so many people can be a powerful energetic force and seems to have catalyzed a change in the actual earth causing the grass to grow greener and longer overnight. Second, I believe that in some way and for some reason the earth is literally giving us a sign. This is a critical point in the history of the world. If we don't begin turning our thoughts and actions toward peace, for both humanity and the environment, a deep crisis may be around the corner. For me the peace sign on the lawn of the US Capitol is both a warning and a symbol of hope. I'm hoping we'll listen and begin working for peace."

Prayers for Peace from Around the World
Hindu Prayer for PeaceOh God, lead us from the unreal to the Real.
Oh God, lead us from darkness to light.
Oh God, lead us from death to immortality.
Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.
O Lord God Almighty may there be peace in Celestial regions.
May there be peace on earth.
May the waters be appeasing.
May herbs be wholesome, and may trees and plants bring peace to all.
May all beneficent beings bring peace to us.
May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all through the world.
May all things be a source of peace to us.
And may thy peace itself bestow peace on all.
And may that peace come to me also.
Buddhist Prayer for Peace
May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid
and may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power,
and may people think of befriending one another.
May those who find themselves in trackless,
fearful wildernesses - the children, the aged, the unprotected - be guarded by beneficent celestials,
and may they quickly attain Buddhahood.
Zoroastrian Prayer for Peace
We pray to God to eradicate all the misery in the world:
that understanding triumph over ignorance,
that generosity triumph over indifference,
that trust triumph over contempt, and
that truth triumph over falsehood.
Jainist Prayer for Peace
Peace and Universal Love is the essence of the Gospel preached by all the Enlightened Ones.
The Lord has preached that equanimity is the Dharma.
Forgive do I, creatures all,
and let all creatures forgive me.
Unto all have I amity, and unto none enmity.
Know that violence is the root cause of all miseries in the world.
Violence in fact, is the knot of bondage.
"Do not injure any living being."
This is the eternal, perennial, and unalterable
way of spiritual life.
A weapon, howsoever powerful it may be,
can always be superseded by a superior one;
but no weapon can, however,
be superior to non-violence and love.
Jewish Prayer for Peace
Come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, that we may walk the paths of the most high.
And we shall beat our swords into ploughshares, and our spears into pruning hooks.
Nations shall not lift up sword against nation - neither shall they learn war any more.
And none shall be afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts has spoken.
Shinto Prayer for Peace
Although the people living across the ocean surrounding us, I believe, are all our brothers and sisters, why are there constant troubles in this world?
Why do winds and waves rise in the ocean surrounding us?
I only earnestly wish that the wind will soon puff away all the clouds which are hanging over the tops of the mountains.
Native African Prayer for Peace
Almighty God, the Great Thumb
we cannot evade to tie any knot:
The Roaring Thunder that splits mighty trees;
the all-seeing Lord up on high who sees
even the footprints of an antelope on a rock mass here on earth.
You are the one who does not hesitate to respond to our call.
You are the cornerstone of peace.
Native American Prayer for Peace
O Great spirit of our Ancestors, I raise my pipe to you;
To your messengers in the four winds, and
to Mother Earth who provides for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect, and to be kind to each other, so that they may grow with peace in mind.
Let us learn to share all good things that you provide for us on this Earth.
Muslim Prayer for Peace
In the name of Allah the beneficent, the merciful. Praise be to the Lord of the Universe, who has created us and made us into tribes and nations that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other.
If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things.
And the servants of God, most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in Humility, and when we address them, we say "PEACE."
The Baha'i Prayer for Peace
Be generous in prosperity and thankful in adversity.
Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech.
Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home
to the stranger.
Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring.
Be a breath of life to the body of humankind, a dew upon the soil of the human heart,
and a fruit upon the tree of humility.
Sikh prayer for Peace
God adjudges us according to our deeds, not the clothes that we wear;
That truth is above everything, but higher still is truthful living.
Know that we attain God when we love, and only that victory endures in consequences of which no one is defeated.
Christian Prayer for Peace
Blessed are the Peacemakers
for they shall be known as the Children of God.
But I say to you that hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
To those who strike you on the cheek offer the other also, and from those who take away your cloak, do not withhold your coat as well.
Give to everyone who begs from you, and of those who take away your goods, do not ask them again.
And as you wish that others would to do you,
do so to them.

My Focus Determines My Experience
The Cloth of Many Colors
An Ongoing Legacy for Peace
Since 1995, James Twyman has had the opportunity to travel to many places in the world, many in need of peace. In 1998, while the ethnic war in Kosovo was at its height, James was invited to sing "The Peace Concert" at a refugee camp on the border of Kosovo and Macedonia.Over thirty-five thousand people were crammed together in tents behind barbed wire fences, while tens of thousands of people from around the world joined James in prayer to help heal the terrible conflict. It was not the first time he had been in this position, but it was certainly one of the most dramatic.
Previously, James had been invited by Governmental officials in Iraq to perform this concert at the same time U.S. bombs were being prepared to be dropped over their heads. That was the first time we used the Internet to invite people to join us in prayer, and millions responded.
Other vigils in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Israel and East Timor showed how willing people are to join their hearts together to bring peace to the world. Peace is not only a powerful reality, but also the most vital force in the universe.
As James walked through that camp in Kosovo, he asked to be shown a way to make all those prayers tangible. It is one thing to pray and feel the power of our prayers, but wouldn't it be wonderful if we could actually see, touch and feel them. That is how The Cloth of Many Colors was born, and since then it has taken on a life of its own.
The Cloth of Many Colors Project has drawn the participation of hundreds of thousands of people from more than fifty countries and has toured in many different parts of the world.
On September 19, 2000, the nearly mile long quilt was presented at the United National building in New York at a special ceremony. The next morning, it was literally wrapped around the base of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Two days later, it was presented during a concert at the U.S. Pentagon.
