I love the Jane Magnolia too! I think we call them a tulip tree, wonder if it's the same?! A personal favorite of mine is the big leaf magnolia, which is a bit different, but the blooms are not the beautiful delicate pink such as the Jane Magnolia,. Love your picts! B : )

Came here from your Mother's Day lens on the Monster Board. I'd never heard of Jane Magnolia. My mom has one of those very large magnolia trees in her yard (Southern Magnolia?) and I bet she'd love this. Great lens!

Our "Jane" is loaded with buds (early) this year and should be blooming soon if we don't have a late frost. Beautiful photos. Now I'm looking forward to the blooms even more.

Magnolia trees are beautiful, and not only when they bloom. I just love their glossy leaves. They are also one of the few trees that look stunning throughout the winter in my part of Central Florida. Blessed! :)

I have a tree very much like your magnolia and I clipped a few branches from it to see if they could be "forced" into blooming early. Guess what? They did bloom inside in January!
Lensrolled you to my pages here on Squidoo about forcing stems and branches to bloom.

What a lovely tree... I loved the day by day pics, but was a little disappointed to find this tree probably wouldn't like it where we live... I think we are too far south, in zone 9B. (That zone finder you provided a link to is pretty neat, though!)

    Love your lens.
Inspiring because we once had this type of magnolia but my wife had other ideas.
I planted two real magnolia trees, only one survived.
What a blessing to our property it has been.
Big beautiful ivory scented blooms make the summer enjoyable.
I believe I will make my own lens about our tree! Thanks BG

It is a beautiful tree. I suppose my Japanese maple has a similar standing at my house.
  • KimGiancaterino Sep 15, 2010 @ 10:04 pm | delete
I've been calling ours a Saucer Magnolia, but Jane sounds much prettier. When we had a terraced patio installed a couple of years ago, I made them plan the pavers around the magnolia. It was just a bunch of twigs at the time, so they thought I was crazy. It's huge now and rewards us with beautiful blooms and foliage most of the year. Thanks for sharing your photos.
  • ElizabethJeanAllen Sep 15, 2010 @ 3:57 pm | delete
My neighbor has a Jane Magnolia. It's beautiful but I swear it's the slowest growing tree around. It's been five feet tall forever.
    Thanks for sharing.
  • OhMe Sep 15, 2010 @ 3:52 am | delete
I just can't stay away from this beautiful lens. I had to come back this time since I am an Angel and sprinkle some angel dust on your Jane Magnolia.

I love your Jane Magnolia! I don't have one, but I've enjoyed a magnolia tree less than 100 yards away across the street from me for 17 years!
  • Sylvestermouse Sep 10, 2010 @ 3:28 pm | delete

I love all your tree lenses, and the magnolia is a great favorite of mine. Pity we have to wait till next year to see it again, but thanks for reminder, and blessed by a new angel!

I have a tree very similar to this one. I think that you might be able to "force" blooms indoors from cut stems from this tree. I will lensroll this page to my one about forcing blooms (when it is finished and published)!
Blessed by me, a SquidAngel, today.

It's beautiful! I had to leave a special rose bush behind when we moved. So glad you were able to replace your tree!
  • Pastiche Apr 1, 2010 @ 7:46 am | delete
We have a huge magnolia tree in our yard that was here long before we owned this home. It's truly magnificent in springtime, loaded with lovely blossoms. Then it makes a 20 foot tall "umbrella" of shade in our garden for the entire summer. The birds love it, and so do our cats who race up and down the trunk without front claws.
  • BigGirlBlue Mar 26, 2010 @ 10:28 pm | delete
Ohhh it is so lovely. I always admire the one around the corner from our home.

    Congratulations on the purple star.

  • bjc Mar 24, 2010 @ 8:40 pm | delete
My Mama had that tree in our back yard, and she called it a Japanese Magnolia....so now you have another name to add to the list! She also had one she called a Star Magnolia, that had white blooms that look like the little balls we would make by winding yarn around a piece of cardboard, and then tie it together in the middle (after slipping it off the cardboard, and then cutting through each of the ends--it made a little fluffy ball, and that is what the Star Magnolia blossoms remind me of. Thank you for bringing back those memories....

Hey, glad to see you sporting your new badge. Looks great! I have had fun sharing our story!

I think I have a Jane Magnolia in my yard... or is it a tulip tree? Anyways, I always called mine a magnolia but it does look just like this one. I look forward to it's two week blooms every year.
  • GrowWear Mar 24, 2010 @ 10:49 am | delete
Wow! Your Jane Magnolia Tree is definitely something to be proud of -- both the actual tree, and the lens!
  • WordCustard Mar 23, 2010 @ 1:31 pm | delete
Such a beautiful sight, it would surely be my favourite tree too if it grew here. Right now, I'm looking forward to seeing some cherry blossoms.
  • Joan4 Mar 23, 2010 @ 1:27 pm | delete
Beautiful tree -- and like Ohme, now I know it is properly called a Jane Magnolia! Gorgeous!
  • 24websurf Mar 22, 2010 @ 10:06 pm | delete
So you have Jane and Alexander Magnolias. Sounds like a love story! Do they get along well?
  • KarenTBTEN Mar 22, 2010 @ 5:00 pm | delete
Those look very much like magnolias that I see looming in Seattle. Ours may well be Jane Magnolias. Lensrolled to Step Into Seattle: Spring.

I love that slideshow of your tree!! For that alone I would bless it if I could! Beautiful blooms on the Jane Magnolia!

  • ulla_hennig Mar 22, 2010 @ 12:28 pm | delete
I love your Magnolia tree. However one of my favorite trees is the Japanese cherry tree - it is blossoming in spring too with colors similar to your Magnolia tree.
  • HorseAndPony Mar 22, 2010 @ 10:23 am | delete
I love your Jane Magnolia tree. When we lived in PA I had 10 huge Southern Magnolia trees. This will be the first year I will not have them but I will forever remember the fragrance. Thanks for sharing pictures of your blooming tree. I loved everyday.
  • Shibamom Mar 22, 2010 @ 7:13 am | delete
Like the other comments, I have never heard them called Jane Magnolia before, have seen them plenty of times though and they are so gorgeous. Thank you!
  • rms Mar 22, 2010 @ 6:24 am | delete
I used to have one in my yard but we had to remove it for construction. I miss it terribly and am now thinking of replanting after seeing this page! They are really beautiful!
  • prosperity66 Mar 22, 2010 @ 5:40 am | delete
Oh what a marvelous Magnolia! I bought one one day and it died suddenly... don't know why because my outdoor trees always survive (instead of indoors plants, lol). Mine was white... I love your pink flowers - and also like purple magnolias. Unfortunately I have now knowledge regarding the sorts of Magnolias but definitely loved and enjoyed visiting this lens!
    Dom.
    Blessed by a SquidAngel.

  • OhMe Mar 21, 2010 @ 4:29 pm | delete
Oh Me! This is beautiful and you taught me something today. I have never heard them called Jane Magnolias so I learned something new. We always called this tree a Tulip Tree and I am not sure that is the correct term, now although the blossoms do look like tulips. I had taken pictures of one in my dad's yard and have made some Zazzle products using that picture. I added my other tree lenses to your plexo and thank you so much for letting me know about this lens. I love it. It is beautiful and love that your Jane Magnolia was a Mothers Day Gift. I really enjoyed my visit here. Thank you so much! Blessed!
  • oztoo Mar 21, 2010 @ 3:20 pm | delete
What a lovely tree. I often wish I could grow magnolias but I don't think they would do well where I live.
  • jptanabe Mar 21, 2010 @ 2:11 pm | delete
Love your Jane Magnolia! I didn't know about this kind of Magnolia before. Great photos to show it blooming, makes me feel like spring is here. Oh I can just smell the scent of Magnolia now!
Outside the apartment building where we lived before there was a giant magnolia tree, really a tree, no danger of any dog's tail hurting any blooms on this one! So I thought they always grew that big. Maybe I can get one of these smaller varieties that would fit better with the Lilac and Rose of Sharon bushes that were in our yard when we bought our house.
