The McGrath Foundation
In 2003, however, the cancer recurred, and Jane, forever thinking of others, realised the need for more breast care nurses. The McGrath Foundatin expanded its vision to include raising money to ensure Breast Care Nurse availability in hospitals in rural and regional Australia.
Tracy Bevan, wife of Australian cricketer Michael Bevan, and Jane McGrath's best friend, is the General Manager of The McGrath Foundation.
What does a Breast Care Nurse do?
Breast care nurses are specially trained registered nurses who specifically support breast cancer patients. They act as advisers, co-ordinate care for women with breast cancer, and support for their families and carers. They are there to answer questions, provide information, support, and referral to services.
The McGrath Foundation aims to provide funding to employ a breast care nurse in areas of need for three years at a time.
