Java sparrow Squid

Java sparrow (Padda Oryzivora) is an endemic Java and Bali bird. It is only 15 cm in length. The feed of the sparrow is grain, fruits and little bugs. The pet lover likes this sparrow because it has nice feather and beautiful chirp.



The habitat of bird is the farmland and grassland. They often nest at farmland. The shape of nest is like small bowl. The material of nest is grass and paddy plant. Sometimes the sparrow eat the paddy's farmer so the farmer chase them away.

The bird has nice face with black head, white cheek, and read big beak. The mature sparrow has gray wings and body. The chest color is roan brown. The feet color is red and it has red circle around it eyes. Meanwhile, the young has brown feather. In bird market, we find the albino. The albino Java sparrow has white feather. Only beak, foot, and eye circle color is red. The albino is more expensive than common Java sparrow.

This bird could breed easily if it have good environment. It spawns two to four eight. Both cock and hen brood the eggs.

This bird is rare in Java and Bali today. The IUCN Red list and Cites has list this bird at susceptive list. The bird hunter also hunts this bird because the pet lover likes this bird. The human population exploded reduce habitat of Java sparrow. Besides pet trader, the competitor also disturbs this bird population. Java sparrow often losses fight with other sparrow. In Semarang, capital city of Central Java, Java sparrow was nest at the building. Today we cannot find Java sparrow because the other sparrow nests at there.
