Where to Post Your Resume

Best Places to Post Your Resume

You've gone through the necessary steps to complete your resume. Now you are ready to use it to apply for jobs. There's always the old-fashioned option of sending your resume off by mail, email or fax to companies advertising in the paper. However, if you only respond to ads in the paper, you are doing yourself a disservice. Why? It's because hundreds of employers don't even use the newspaper to advertise. Instead they'll advertise on various sites online. With that being said, where are the best places to post resumes? The best places to post resumes include: online job boards, freelance sites and your own website.

If you post resumes on an online job board, expect that before you are allowed to actually post, you'll have to fill out some extra forms. These forms will start by asking for general information such as your name, telephone number and address. They will proceed by asking what you are looking for in terms of a job. Sometime throughout the process you will get a chance to post resumes if you want to. If you decide you do not want to post resumes, you can create an online resume specifically for the site by answering a series of even more questions. Either way, once you are done your account is created. If you decided to post resumes through the signup process, it will be viewable in your account area. If not you will just see the online resume you created or, if you didn't make anything, you'll see nothing. If you did not initially post resumes, you can always do so later. Regardless, posted resumes or online resumes will be visible to potential employers who will contact you if your resume interests them.

The next place you can post resumes are on freelance sites. These are sites where companies choose from a group of employees to do work for them. The format is actually similar to an auction site, as the employees place a 'bid' on their services. If the employer likes the bid they will grant their assignment to the employee. Granted, posting resumes on these types of sites is optional, but when you do so you increase the chances of winning a bid. This is because through a resume employers can better evaluate if you're right for their assignment.

Lastly, you can post resumes on your own website. How can posting resumes on your website help you? It can help you market your resume on Internet venues where you could not normally post your resume. Message boards, chat rooms and classified ads are an example. Although some people may consider it primitive to post resumes on your website, if you're truly interested in getting a job, you need to have your resume available at all times. In fact, don't be surprised if you do get freelance work especially if you advertise your website on work-at-home message board. Indeed, not everyone will get a job through the paper or on a traditional job board, so don't be afraid to keep an open mind.
