Growing Excitement!

I'm really excited. I'm excited about this life changing opportunity I am applying for but also for something much bigger. I'm excited about opportunity in general.

Never before have had such a favorable playing field for changing the way much of our world is run.

That makes me excited.

Seth's books were at the forefront of my discovery of this interesting way of thinking. That the way we communicate is changing in a massive way, and that there's opportunity, if not necessity, as we move forward. To have the opportunity to study and work with him would be an experience of a lifetime.

If you haven't checked out this amazing opportunity that I'm applying for, find the details at Seth Godin Alternative MBA

The Mantra.

I believe that my personal success will come through helping those around me be the best they can be, thus I try to share my thoughts, ideas and time in many different areas. If I can help you in any way please feel free to contact me.

Exploring new waters and a mountain.

What do you do now?

I've just graduated this past Spring with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing. I am exploring my options and am on the lookout for new ways to challenge myself. Currently I manage a Nordic Ski area at Cypress Mountain, in Vancouver British Columbia. My joy, however, is to immerse myself in thoughts and projects regarding business and social media.

Cypress has allowed me the opportunity to grow and lead with few boundaries, enabling me to explore leadership in employee development and customer service areas of the business.

I am passionately interested in social media and business and I explore them both in depth. Through my various blogs and web projects, all noted below, I've been exploring the new ways we are connecting and communicating, hoping to best position myself for my next step, whatever that may be.

It's people and opportunity.

Why do you do it?

I work with amazingly creative, motivated and bright people. I try to challenge myself to be in situations where I don't have everything to offer, where I'm forced to engage and learn. I feel lucky to have the regular opportunity to do so.

The past few years have been full of discovery. I get excited about the vast opportunities available to me, a lucky twenty-something with knowledge and skills. I want to position myself to be in the forefront of that opportunity and have an impact in other people's lives as well as my own.

Growing the seeds

What are you hoping to learn?

More than anything, I would value the experience. I'm eager to learn and develop my business and communications skills, but the biggest excitement for me is to get out there a do it. Being in an environment where I'm pushed and challenged to offer more and where encouragement and passion are every day occurrences, is just as important.

I hope to learn how to better identify, describe and communicate an idea and then have the opportunity to follow it through. I want to explore community development and it's intricacies and find insights into smarter business strategies.

My smile widened as I read the topics that will be covered, it's an extremely exciting opportunity to expand my knowledge, force my boundaries and explore.

Go tell it on the Mountain

After you learn it, what are you going to do with it?

I want to have an impact on changing the way that my generation approaches opportunity. I hope to encourage and make obvious the creativity, knowledge and ability that so many people around me have to offer. I hope that my actions spur more action.

I want to help someone found a business, bring attention to a great cause and share along the way. There are many huge problems that we don't have the answers to; I want to be an encourager, enabler and fan to people tackling a big challenge.

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world. (Buddhist saying)

Tell me a true story about making a change in the world.

My change started close to home, with myself. In the summer of 2008, I had the experience of a lifetime, spending two months learning about myself in fascinating ways. I had sold my business and got dumped in short order, leaving me with way to much time on my hands, a hole in my heart and an opportunity to enroll in an emotional intelligence building process.

My experience has taught me how to separate thoughts from emotion, and to bring authenticity to my life. I've moved away from numbing my mind with distraction and busyness and found purpose in the moment. I found my ability to lead effectively.

They say the best first change to make in the world is to make change in our selves. I've taken that first step and am ready for the next.

Cul-de-sac of NEXT

Have you overcome a Dip?

I don't feel like I have. I grew up on a cul-de-sac and am far too well acquainted with the space.

I do, however, have experience with identifying a dead end and with getting out of it. I've sold a business, finished a degree and am focusing on being aware of the next opportunity.

I'm looking for a huge challenge, something bigger than I've ever tackled before and this opportunity is it. Uprooting to New York is my next Brave and Bold move to make.

A green thumb and blind arrogance

What astonishing thing did you do before you did what you do now?

At the age of 19, freshly out of high school, I started a lawn maintenance company. With a $500 truck and some donated equipment (thanks Dad) I set out, knocking on doors.

I banged and crashed my way through my first few years, but got the hang of it. I faced many powerful realizations such as, "if I don't do this for the business no one will" and "Cool, I can give my friends job" to "damn, why did I hire a friend". Most importantly was the realization that Lawn Care wasn't for me and I sold the business after 5 years of success.

I learned the power that authentic, reliable and personable service had on growing a business and when to call it quits. I'm excited for my next venture.

Something for us all

Make a wish.

I wish for more compassion to enter the everyday lives of myself and others around the world.

I have known Jess for near 7 years now, and to me he has been a best friend, a backbone, a teacher, a spiritual guide, a same age brother, minus a month or two, a competition, a travel buddy, a left and right foot, a wing man, an audience, a shoulder to cry on, a success story, a disappointment, a phone call away, a boss, two or three times, a relationship guy, someone to take in the true beauty of an ocean side sunset with, followed by stars, and wisdom shared, and most importantly an unconditional giver of many things to many different people throughout his entire life so far. Jess is honest, smart, caring, loving, giving, confident, inspirational, and extremely deserving of this opportunity, because if everything goes according to the way Jess's life has gone so far then what ever he is given is then handed back to those maybe less fortunate than him times TEN. Best of luck buddy!!!!!!!

Jess and my daughter Rosalyn have been friends since college. What stood out for me about Jess was his deep passion for making the world a better place and how he openly shares and discusses his ideas with any age group. His ability to lead by example makes him a great role model for youth. Jess went out of his way to be there for Rosalyn if she was homesick, needed a study partner, a ride to the airport, even sitting at her side all night when she was ill. Good luck with your plans, and remember - our door is always open.

Nice app. I came across it on the crowd favorites (I doubled your votes you had hehe). I am jealous of your summer trip. I too tried that (about 9 years ago though). My journey ended much differently though. What was supposed to be 2 eeks in Nagasaki, Japan turned into 2 months, then single turned into married, then later on there were 3 of us. Now, almost a decade later, I am looking to make it back to the US.

Hope to see you in NY.

Jess, dug your lens-good stuff. (I've been puked on and I have size 13 feet too, so I can relate. Though I don't have to duck under doorways quite like you.) Best of luck with the MBA!
