A Lesson in Humility
Before the Passover holiday Jesus shared a meal with his Disciples. That meal was called the Feast of the Passover, and Jesus knew that when the meal was done, it would be time for him to endure his crucifixion.
Jesus wanted his disciples to remember his teachings about loving one another, so after the meal He poured water into a bowl and began to wash their feet.
Peter did not understand why his beloved teacher would do such a thing, and he did not want Jesus to wash his feet. He told Jesus he should be washing HIS feet!
Jesus insisted, telling Peter that if he wouldn't allow him to wash his feet, he would have no part with him. Peter, being Peter...declared, then wash my head and my hands too!
Jesus left his disciples with a powerful lesson in humility that day. He taught them about humility and love, and what it truly meant to be a servant, and one of his followers.

Feast of the Passover
Passover (Hebrew, Yiddish: ??????, , Tiberian: , Israeli: Pesah, Pesakh, Yiddish: Peysekh, Paysakh) is a Jewish and Samaritan holy day and festival commemorating the Hebrews escape from enslavement in Egypt.
Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan (equivalent to March and April in Gregorian calendar), the first month of the Hebrew calendar's festival year according to the Hebrew Bible.(; , )
In the story of the Exodus, the Bible tells that God inflicted ten plagues upon the Egyptians before Pharaoh would release his Hebrew slaves, with the tenth plague being the killing of firstborn sons. The Hebrews were instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a spring lamb and, upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord passed over these homes, hence the term "passover".Exodus 12:12: "On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn?both men and animals?and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am ???? (the LORD)." When Pharaoh freed the Hebrews, it is said that they left in such a hurry that they could not wait for bread to rise. In commemoration, for the duration of Passover, no leavened bread is eaten, for which reason it is called "The Festival of the Unleavened Bread"., , Matza
(unleavened bread) is the primary symbol of the holiday. This bread that is flat and unrisen is called Matzo.
Together with Shavuot ("Pentecost") and Sukkot ("Tabernacles"), Passover is one of the three pilgrim festivals (Shalosh Regalim) during which the entire Jewish populace historically made a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. Samaritans still make this pilgrimage to Mount Gerizim, but only men participate in public worship.
It's a Dirty Job... But Jesus Chose to Do It
...OR if you come from an old fashioned, old school religious upbringing, where washing feet was ALWAYS done in conjunction with taking the Communion!
Most people would never think of asking someone else to wash their feet...it just doesn't seem natural!
But, Jesus wasn't natural...he was supernatural! He had a point to make, and as usual; he used an object lesson so that we would have a visual reminder of the principle he was teaching.
He loved us so much, and his goal was to teach us to love each other as much as he loves us. What better way to show someone how much you care for them than to wash their feet.
It was symbolic, it was bold, it was different, it was unusual...sounds like something Jesus would do, doesn't it?
He tells us to go and do what he did. He's looking for willing hearts...he's looking for servants who will be obedient to his instructions and commands; even when they are out of the ordinary!
Have you ever washed someone else's feet? Have you ever thought about it? What would you do if Jesus told you to get a towel and a basin; and wash your brother's feet?
A good question, indeed! Think about it for a while...what would you do?
Have You Ever Washed Someone Else's Feet in a Communion Service?
"Feet"
Hmmmmm, I Wonder Why Jesus Thought So Much About Feet?
He has something to say about feet too...
Why do you think that is?
Again, I say; Hmmmm
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace..."

The Last Supper
In the Christian Gospels, the Last Supper (also called the Mystical Supper) was the last meal Jesus shared with his Twelve Apostles and disciples before his death. The Last Supper has been the subject of many paintings, perhaps the most famous by Leonardo da Vinci.
According to what Paul the Apostle recounted in , in the course of the Last Supper, and with specific reference to eating bread and drinking from a cup, Jesus told his disciples, "Do this in remembrance of me". Other events and dialogue are recorded in the Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John. Many Christians describe this as the "Institution of the Eucharist" (see Maundy Thursday).
The vessel which was used to serve the wine is sometimes called the Holy Chalice, and has been the one of the supposed subjects of Holy Grail literature in Christian mythology.
The Eucharist...Also Known as The Eucharist, or The Last Supper
The Eucharist, also called Holy Communion or 'The Lords Supper' and other names, is a Christian sacrament, generally considered to be a commemoration of the Last Supper, the final meal that Jesus Christ shared with his disciples before his arrest and eventual crucifixion. The consecration of bread and a cup within the rite recalls the moment at the Last Supper when Jesus gave his disciples bread, saying, "This is my body", and wine, saying, "This is my blood".Ignazio Silone, Bread and Wine'' (1937)..
There are different interpretations of the significance of the Eucharist, but "there is more of a consensus among Christians about the meaning of the Eucharist than would appear from the confessional debates over the sacramental presence, the effects of the Eucharist, and the proper auspices under which it may be celebrated."Encyclopaedia Britannica, s.v. Eucharist
The phrase "the Eucharist" may refer not only to the rite but also to the bread and wine (or, in some Protestant denominations morally opposed to the consumption of alcohol, unfermented grape juice) used in the rite,cf. The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition 2000 and, in this sense, communicants may speak of "receiving the Eucharist", as well as "celebrating the Eucharist".

After the Passover Feast, Jesus Went to the Garden of Gethsemane....
The Tomb Was Looming Large on The Horizon for Jesus
The Israelites were instructed to sacrifice a lamb, and place the blood on the doorposts of their homes.
When the death angel passed over Egypt that night; the lamb's blood on the door would tell him
to "pass over" that house, leaving the firstborn child alive.
The night that Jesus washed the disciples feet was the fulfillment of the picture we see in the story of the Exodus from Egypt. After the supper, he got up and went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray, and prepare himself for his soon coming cruficixion.
No more sacrifices would be allowed after the crucifixion. An angel of the Lord made that clear when he ripped the curtain that covered the entrance to the Holy of Holies.
Angels were certainly busy in revealing the story of the death Jesus died for us!
On Resurrection morning, they showed up again... this time, at the tomb where Jesus had been placed after the crucifixion.
Their words to Mary were the glorious announcement that Jesus wasn't there. He had conquered death, and he wasn't in that tomb anymore!
He was risen from the dead... just like he said he would be. What an amazing story!

What a wonderful lens! Sometimes I myself get caught up in the household duties that never end and I start thinking to myself, "I am not a hired maid here", then I think of how Jesus washed thier feet and how I ask in prayer to let my life shine. Then I get ashamed of my attitude and repent of it. This is a beautiful piece of scripture and thank you for highlighting it so well in this lens! God Bless you and I hope you get huge traffic on this lens!
