I am committed to truly honoring religious and cultural diversity. I have an online store at www.littlecharacters.net. Little Characters prints my drawings on baby T-shirts, onesies, and bibs. The Holidays sections in my store have lots of my original designs for the major holidays of eastern and western religions, and I have worked especially hard to create a nice sized collection of clothing designs for the Jewish calendar.
Other artists and business people have already been trying to create beautiful clothes for infants and toddlers to be included in Jewish holidays, and I want to acknowledge them, too.
Let's stop this "Christian Baby by default" kind of mentality. Jewish families have just as much right to dress their little ones up in sappy outfits for pictures or to get aunts and friends to cluck, "Aaaawwww!"

Jewish Identity Baby Clothes
Find T-Shirts and Onesies for Babies to Show Jewish Pride
The design on this onesie was created by Michael Yosef Robinson. I chose it to be the picture in my intro, because I believe this is a simple, but powerful message. Go to his website http://www.cafepress.com/yosefdreams for other great Jewish children's clothes. Just browse by product and select kids' apparel. I really like Michael's designs because they don't just seem like mass market stuff: they feature really original artwork, and this is also a good place to go if you want to find designs in Hebrew.
Another design by Yosef's Dreams (I just love his stuff!) Click the picture so you can make the image larger: you won't believe the gorgeous intricate detail. He has created a breathtaking arrangement of Jewish stars within stars . . . within stars. Even though it's a complex piece of art, I think it actually looks quite soft and appropriate on a baby's onesie.
Shavuot2 Infant Bodysuit
This design features original artwork depicting Moses' tablets with a Hebrew and English excerpt from Exodus. The graphics style in this reminds me of some illustrations from children's books that have won awards. It almost has the feeling of being a photograph of a paper-cut collage.

My Favorite Jewish Holiday Onesie
Rosh Hashanah Baby Clothes
Find Sweet T-Shirts and Onesies for Rosh Hashana
My favorite Jewish onesie is "Extra Sweet for Rosh Hashanah". It features a chubby baby/toddler with a sweet smile hugging a jar of honey and rolling around a couple of apples.
I'm proud of the drawing I made for this. I think the baby is very cute, and I'm able to do a custom order to make the baby look more like any customer's child if they email me at drawnbyk@gmail.com
Apples & Honey Inspector Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
This T-shirt bears a badge reading, "Official Apples and Honey Inspector", so your little one get on with the important work of eating sweet stuff for the new year.
Honey & Apples Bib
There are lots of designs for Rosh Hashanah baby clothes with images of apples and honey, but I really like the way this designer chose to draw the little honey bear. It makes it sweeter.
Rosh Hashanah Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
This has a unique drawing of two little kids playing in an apple tree (with a beehive suggesting honey).
Yom Kippur Baby Clothes
Find cute onesie and T-shirts for Yom Kippur
This is one of my designs (though it's not my typical style since I haven't drawn a baby!) A large bottle has a beautiful Star of David drawn on the label. The top message is "My First Yom Kippur" and the small print on the bottom is "I'm Not Fasting Yet!" The Yom Kippur bib is shown, but it is also available as a onesie or T-shirt with your choice of message.
Shofar Blowing Champion Infant Bodysuit
Yom Kippur onesie has large, triumphant lettering that reads "Shofar Blowing Champion" with a small picture of a trophy above.
Infant Bodysuit
This is an original Little Characters design. A little boy is wearing blue pajamas with little blue Jewish stars all over them and the message is "Yom Kippur: Sorry about all those sleepless nights!" Clearly a baby or toddler can't offer meaningful apologies, but it might be comforting to imagine he's really sorry. Shown with light skin on a T-shirt. Onesies and bibs available with a variety of skin tones and messages.
Readers: What do you think?
Growing up in a minority religion, I got used to people constantly assuming that a big part of my identity just didn't count or was so obviously inferior it wasn't worth acknowledging. Now that I have a business of my own (albeit it a tiny one), I am committed to putting a lot of work into honoring many religions and helping people feel as though they can share that essential part of themselves with others. Religion and cultural identity take on new importance when people become parents, and inclusive baby clothes give those new parents a chance to celebrate who they are. It is true that I would like to make a profit off of my designs, but if I divided my total profits so far by the number of hours I work at this, my hourly wage would be absolutely pitiful.
Honestly, what matters more to me is that I can look at the designs I drew and feel proud of them. And when I know that a mother or father is able to gush over their child in an outfit in a way they would not have been able to if not for me . . . well that does make me proud.
Should there be more marketing targetting Jewish parents?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byCreate products with Jewish parents in mind. They shouldn't be treated like they're invisible.
ShopaholicChick says:
i don't know how i would target marketing to only jewish parents only unless i write it in herbrew...but i do make jewish designs...just like other people make christian designs
I do have a jewish shop on cafepress JewcyDesigns - as for the "money-making schemes" - it is not a scheme....do you really think every person in asia and other 3rd world countries that produce many of our consumer goods - employ only christians to cut sew print create or make crosses, stuffed reindeer, santa claus tshirts and other christian goods?? It is just a good business decision to follower the buyers then make what they want - and good business is something many people will tell you Jews are all about!! (just making fun of the stereotype not the Jewish businessmen themselves)
and who is to say what is "another group's holiday" - my great grandmother was jewish...my mother is episcopal - father is catholic - one of my best friends is muslim - college roommate was hindi....don't even ask what I am that's a whole other story!!
Remember if you are a Jewish mom/dad looking for cute Jewish designs for your kids - my bet is your not the only one!!

Don't try to profit from another religious group's holidays. They're supposed to be spiritual not money-making schemes.
Talk Amongst Yourselves
Online communities for Jewish Moms and Dads
- Modern Jewish Moms Social Network
- A great forum with more specialized groups within the community of Jewish parents - like "Single Moms" and "Kvetching".
- Jewish Families Group on Babycenter
- I really like Babycenter in general. It has a lot of helpful information for whatever stage of parenting you're in. I've spent a fair bit of time in these groups, and it really helps to be able to vent to people who can empathize.
- Jewish Moms Group on CafeMom
- I haven't spent as much time on CafeMom personally, but this group seems quite large, so I imagine that there are more interesting posts to read and you'd have more varied perspectives.
Sukkot Baby Clothes
The very best onesies and T-shirts for Sukkot
Mover and shaker. Infant Bodysuit
This cute onesie says "Mover and Shaker" and features a lulav. Goodness knows a lot of babies and toddlers are always on the move!
Infant Bodysuit
Xtreme Sukkah Makeover Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
This onesie really makes me laugh. It's a great parody: it says, "Extreme Makeover: Sukkah Edition" with a logo that is extremely similar to the television show's, but it has some details from a sukkah drawn over the letters.
Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
Sukkah Builders Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
This design is also from Low Schmaltz and it is his typical style. A badge reads "Professional Sukkah Builders Association". Some of the nice details are a Star of David above the lettering and two hammers toward the bottom.
Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
Jewish Baby Girl Power

The picture above is my favorite Purim design. You can find this adorable drawing of a rosy-cheeked girl in a crown that says"Brave, Smart, Pretty - Just Like Esther!" on T-shirts, onesies, and bibs with a variety of skin tones in the large selection of Jewish baby clothes at Little Characters.
Purim Baby Clothes
Find the best Purim onesies and T-shirts
I'm very proud of this design. It features my drawing of a truly adorable little rosy-cheeked girl wearing a crown over her curls. It says, "Brave, Smart, Pretty - Just Like Esther!" with two Stars of David between the words.
Other designers have focused a lot on Esther's beauty, but I think the way she tricked her husband into doing right by her people is just as important.
You can also find this drawing matched with messages like "Little Purim Queen".
Passover (Pesach) Baby Clothes
The cutest onesies and baby/toddler T-shirts
Why is this shirt different Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
Great text design. Says, "Why is this shirt different than the other shirts?" A funny take on Pesach that's perfect for a child.
Elijah Tour Infant/Toddler T-Shirt
Unique drawing of wings around a Star of David says "Elijah: The Open Door Tour" in the style of a concert shirt.
Online Resources for Jewish Parents
Websites and personal blogs with wisdom and fun

Chabad's Jewish Woman site has a large section for mothers that tends to be more spiritual than chatty. There are a lot of inspiring and informative articles to browse and even ways to stretch your soul by writing poetry, etc.
Joyce Antler's What Makes a Jewish Mother Funny blog is humble and . . . funny!
