When Outsourcing Audio Video & Multimedia Projects it is Always Good to Follow a Proven System.

When you visit freelance web sites like ScriptLance, Elance, GetAFreelancer and RentACoder, you will have to learn to get your project descriptions right. These descriptions are designed inform freelance providers what it is that you wish to accomplish with their assistance.

On this lens I am going to show you a sample Audio Video & Multimedia project description that has all the qualities needed to get your project requirements across. This is presented in two sections; the first is what I suggest you post on the job board for all providers to bid on. It is a short explanation that helps freelancers decide if the project is for them. The second is what should only be shown to those you intend to interview, it is a more in-depth description that will allow the provider to make further enquiries and modify their bid if they wish.

Audio Video and Multimedia We all have great ideas, the method in which you communicate those ideas to your audience is what makes them successful. In today's world there is a multitude of options available to us to express these ideas, we call them multimedia; Text, audio, still images, animation, video and interactive media. All of which can be used in an array of configurations to developing any presentation that best matches your vision.

Write Your Requirements Clearly So The Outsourcing Audio/Video & Multimedia Is Not Left Guessing.

Imagine this. You run a successful retail online store that sells children's educational toys and books. Your products are designed and developed for young children in the 4 to 7 age group.

You realize that your web site could use a "facelift." If you're going to attract more customers - children especially - your web site needs to come alive with sound and video to make your products more interesting.

The idea of adding animation, audio and video came to you like a bolt of lightning when one of your customers mentioned that it was her child who led her to your web site and pointed to an image, asking, what kind of doll is that, mommy, is it a talking doll? If it's a talking doll, can I have it for Christmas?

It would be more enticing - and more efficient - if the little girl could actually hear the doll talk if she clicked on the doll's image. Or if she could hear extracts from a song if she clicked on a music CD.

Your decision: make each of your product pages come alive with audio, video and animation. You want a site that will cater to both parents and children. Most of all, you want a site that will offer some kind of entertainment so that visitors don't navigate away from your site and will decide, after listening to a few songs, or watch a short video on how an educational game is played, that your site is their go-to site every time they need to buy products for their children.

You want someone who will do voice-overs, create animation for the products and make them more attractive to children aged 4 to 7.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Job Description

Overall Plan: My wife and I run a successful online retail store that caters to very young readers - aged 4 to 7. We sell children's toys, books, CDs, sports accessories and educational items. We would like to add sound, video and animation to all of our product pages to help parents and children discover what products to buy after they've watched a short video or listened to a few extracts of a music CD.

Nature of Project: This project is to make product web pages come alive with sight, sound and other animation effects. For instance, in our music CD catalog, we want buttons for our customers to listen to an extract of the song. For our toys section, we want talking dolls to talk and airplanes to make sounds when they're taking off and landing - I think you get the idea.

In addition to a text description of a product, we also want the product to "do all the talking."

Compensation: Am open and flexible to fees. Present your hourly or fixed fee proposals. While I'm prepared to pay for top shelf work, I cannot go over budget. I will not pay 50% upfront. What I will do, however, is put the total payment on escrow and release funds as and when one milestone is complete. I will also make final and full payment upon delivery of the project, but reserve the right to request two revisions after payment is released.

Details: I shall be sending qualified candidates a more detailed information sheet containing the number of products that have to be revamped and how each product is going to be presented. Based on these detailed specs, you can then calculate your fee.

Thank you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The job description above is neither too short nor too long. This gives the freelancer an idea of your basic requirements. In most cases, this would suffice.

However, it often happens that the design of a particular project has to be revised a few times because something is missing. This is often because key data was not communicated properly. After you receive bids, you send out a detailed project spec (specification sheet) so your freelancer has more information to work with.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detailed Job Description (or Information Sheet)

Requirements: audio, video and other animation effects for each product line.

Product Line:

Boys:
* Video games
* Airplane models
* Trains
* u2022 Movies
* Books
* CDs
* Lego
* Assembly kits
* Sporting goods: balls (football, basketball, soccer and bowling), tennis rackets, bikes and helmets, darts, hockey equipment and accessories

Girls:
* Dolls
* Kitchen sets
* Puzzles and games
* Movies
* CDs
* Books
* Art supplies
* Portable pianos
* Sporting goods: bikes and helmets, tennis rackets, volleyball, swim gear and swim suits

Some of the products don't need animation obviously, but I still want the product to "talk" to the visitor. For example, tennis rackets: I want a short video (15 seconds) to show a kid swinging the tennis racket, and for a voice to provide the technical features of the racket. For the Lego sets, it would be nice to see a short video of a boy building a castle with his Lego kit, and animated pictures of what can be built with Legos.

We will provide the scripts and general plan for each product from which you will create the animation.

Please provide speaker buttons and a playlist so that when a visitor clicks on a particular song title, the song plays for 20 seconds.

Note: some products can have all three: sound, video and other animation while other products will only need sound. Use your creativity! Pretend you're the owner of this web site and you want to sell all the products featured. How can you make each product more interesting?
Look forward to your final bids and project proposal. In your proposal, please describe in detail how you would approach this project.

Milestones:
Boys: first 4 product lines: weeks 1 and 2; last 5 product lines: weeks 3 and 4. Revisions: week 5.

Girls: first 4 product lines: week 6; last 5 product lines: weeks 7 and 8. Revisions: week 9.

Payments will be released weekly or bi-weekly depending on the milestone we're at.

Thank you!

So there is enough information in these examples to compare to your own project descriptions. It is purely up to you how you use this information but it will make a big difference to providers who view your project if they can see your needs presented in an ordered and comprehensive way.
