terrific lens. Excellent advice about hunting down the right person to send a resume to in a company. Would love you to left align the text in the black box. Think it would be easier to read.

Great stuff. In my industry, it's very much who you know, not what you know. I think there's a case for that in a lot of other workplaces too. 5*

Absolutely Ms. Manhattan. There's a number of banners on this site that I advertise which can definitely help you with your job search. Click on any one of them. You have Snag a Job, as well as Resume blasting. With resume blasting you can also refine your search geographically.

I think I'm unemployable at this point (yay for professional blogging :P), but this looks like some good advice!
  • Illuminator26 Aug 26, 2008 @ 8:24 pm | delete
This is great. I'll be looking for a new job in a few months. We'll definitely turn to you for help then... Thanks for everything.

Great reading. Glad to see you promoting your lenses on firestormforum.com
  • JaguarJulie Aug 22, 2008 @ 7:33 am | delete
Great lens for this day and age as I have worked with several companies that have pink-slipped their employees or offered early retirement in efforts of reorganization and eliminating of jobs. Personally, I've known about fax blasting for years, but never found it in my game plan. It'd be nice to read about tips for the 'older' employee--to show how that has changed over the years--not so much a stigma these days. 5*****

Looking for a job can be incredibly frustrating. Excellent tips to put people in control of their employment situation!
  • KarenKay Aug 6, 2008 @ 10:24 am | delete
Hey CJ! I got a job once using the "blind resume" technique (though I didn't know the term then)....so that definitely works!

Thanks for reminding me of that one!

    Great lens my friend!
  • MT Aug 6, 2008 @ 7:12 am | delete
You have some good information, not just fluff. I have been lucky enough to work from home as a medical transcriptionist but I am always getting emails from new MTs trying to find a job. I will send some of them your way.
  • FrustratedBrian Aug 3, 2008 @ 11:37 am | delete
Never heard of resume blasting until I saw it here. I will definetely give it a try. Sounds very well worth it. Thanks.
  • George B. Jul 30, 2008 @ 3:16 pm | delete
I have used a resume blasting service twice in the last 5 years. It has helped me on both occassions. I also agree networking is vital, if and when you have the contacts. Thanks - good info.
  • The_Homeopath Jul 30, 2008 @ 11:52 am | delete
I'm very happy that I don't need a resume at the moment. It's been years since I've had to write one.
  • CubicleJoe Jul 29, 2008 @ 10:28 pm | delete
Oh I agree. You are right. And that's if your lucky enough to have a good contact - be it a friend, professional associate, or a family member. However, I truly believe more than one strategy has to be employed. You can't have all your eggs in one basket.
  • Webcodes Jul 29, 2008 @ 7:06 pm | delete
5* joe, definitely networking is the best way to get a job above anything else. Please visit my lenses, I've got several about life in a cubicle.
