Why am I writing about Johnny Cash, unique country music star?

I'm making this page about Johnny Cash, unique country music star because, although I'm not a great fan of country music as such (most country singers sound like they're sining through their nose and the words are usually about beer or adultry). Johnny Cash stands out head and shoulders above the rest as a unique country singer, both for several reasons:

 1) His unique voice (basso prufundo, the only country singer with a voice that low) He even sound good just talking, which is why some of his albums, including my pick for his best have talking on them

. 2) His unique singing style (straight forward, somtimes half-talking.

 3) His unique song writing and choice of material. Some of his songs are more like folk songs. Many have a historical basis. At any rate, none are about booze or adulterous relationships or break-ups. And much of his material is gospel related, which brings me to the 4th and most important point:

 4) His unique life story. (Check out the books in the list below.) Basically, according to Dan rather in the first spotlight DVD below, he had passionately wanted to record gospel music from the start (so perhaps he had accepted Jesus at an early age), but Stan Phillips at Sun records refused, since he thought it wouldn't be commercial and thus he started recording more folk/country like songs. After he started to gain some fame as a singer apparantly, his life started going downhill, with drugs and booze untill he met the love of his life, June Carter. She re-introduced him to Jesus Christ and he re-dedicated his life to Christ and was completely changed. June helped him get off of the durgs and booze and he became more passionate about singing gospel songs and insisted on making some gosple albums and also began writing gosple songs (see the module on his gosple albums below.). He even wrote, directed and narrerated his own movie on the life of Jesus, called "The Gosple Road" (see 2nd Amazon spotlight module.)

Johnny Cash on Wikipedia

Johnny Cash (February 26, 1932-September 12, 2003), born J. R. Cash, was an American singer-songwriter and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century."The Man in Black," Eugene Register, September 13, 2003, accessed October 20, 2009 Primarily a country music artist, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll (especially early in his career), as well as blues, folk, and gospel.

Cash was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice, the "chicka-boom" freight train sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, his demeanor, and his dark clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black". He traditionally started his concerts with the introduction "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash".

Much of Cash's music, especially that of his later career, echoed themes of sorrow, moral tribulation and redemption. His signature songs include "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm" and "Man in Black". He also recorded humorous songs, such as "One Piece at a Time" and "A Boy Named Sue", a duet with June Carter called "Jackson", as well as railroad songs such as "Hey Porter" and "Rock Island Line."

When did Johnny Cash first find God?

According to the movie "I Walk The Line," Johnny Cash was led to Christ by June Carter, but according to Dan Rather on the T.V. special "The Gosple Music of Johnny Cash," all Johnny Cash had wanted to do from the start was to sing gospel music. So did he have an earlier conversion experiance before he met June and then simply come back to God when he me her? Or was his former passion for gospel just an unreasoned preference?
