Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 - April 12, 1975) was an American-born French expatriate entertainer and singer. She became a French citizen in 1937. Baker was most noted as a singer, while in her early career she was a celebrated dancer. She was given the nicknames the "Black Venus" or the "Black Pearl", as well as the "Creole Goddess" in anglophone nations, while in France she has always been known in the old theatrical tradition as "La Baker".
Josephine Baker is noted for being the first woman of African descent to star in a major motion picture, to integrate an American concert hall, and to become a world famous entertainer. She is also noted for her contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, and for being an inspiration to generations of African-American female entertainers.![]()

Josephine Baker's Dance
A short part of a film where Josephine Baker presents her "Danse Sauvage" in her "Revue Nègre". She is dancing with Joe Alex. I'm sorry it's not a long film.

SPOTLIGHT
When graphic designer Paul Colin published a limited edition of lithographs he'd made of dancer Josephine Baker and her revue in Paris in 1927, the French fascination with American jazz musicians and dancers was at its peak--and the 500 hand-colored copies quickly sold out. Henry Louis Gates Jr. introduces this edition of the lithographs with an essay that reminds readers of the haven African Americans found in France at a time when overt racism and bigotry were rampant in the United States. He then maps the wild success the new musical form jazz, and its beloved interpreter Baker, achieved there...

J'ai Deux Amours
Il existe une citéAu séjour enchanté
Et sous les grands arbres noirs
Chaque soir
A mi-voix
Doucement je dis "emporte-moi !
J'ai deux amours....
