Gavin Lyall's Judas Country - an aviation thriller

Ranked #3,290 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #126,254 overall

About "Judas Country" by Gavin Lyall

"Judas Country" is one of Gavin Lyall's four flight books, an aviation thriller set in an exotic local and featuring first person narrative.

Roy Case is an ex-RAF pilot making a living flying a Beechcraft Queen Air around the Mediterranian. The trouble begins when he runs into an old friend and discovers that the cases of champagne he was transporting actually contain quite a different type of magnum.

From here as things degenerate around him he finds himself embroiled in a mix of treasure, gangsters and murder. The photo shows the pan edition of the book.

About "Judas Country"

The aviation thriller on Amazon US

Published in 1975, after a long period of writer's block, Judas Country was the last of the aviation thrillers. It is also considered by many to be his best. Once again the plot is complex but not overcomplicated, and it retains the wry humour that kept so many readers enthralled in earlier novels.

Roy Case, a former RAF pilot, is flying charter flights round the Mediterranian in a Beechcraft Queen Air. Things become tricky when his plane is impounded, but when he discovers the reason - that the caskets of "champagne" are actually guns - he finds himself in over his head.

The last of Gavin Lyall's flight books, Judas Country focuses, like "the Wrong side of the Sky" on the shadier parts of aviation. Roy Case finds himself in over his head when he is drawn into a mix of smuggling and murder.
