Brian Donnelly, aka "KAWS", discovered spray paint and stickers during a particularly bad drinking binge some time in the early 1990s. He began a forbidden love of under age advertisements he found huddled in New York City bus shelters and phone booths and started molesting them with his own touches; a cartoon skull and crossbones. He continued to develop these imaginary friends till suffering a psychotic break after a brief but torrid affair with the Pillsbury Dough Boy. KAWS was afterwards rumored to be accused of stalking both Mickey Mouse and "The Michelin Man" during an annual visit to the Betty Ford Clinic. KAWS' work is greatly influenced by both cartoons and commercials; part tribute but also a revision and reworking of those icons. KAWS was last seen wandering the streets and muttering to himself somewhere in Brooklyn area.
I'm joking again.
Brian Donnelly is not only very talented but also a very elusive figure in the Vinyl Art world. His creations are among the most sought after and the prices for extemely rare examples of his work reflect this. Don't go looking for deals when you look at collecting KAWS.
One word of advice... See all the links I give you to the stores. Well, Go there first and see the prices for these fine vinyl pieces and then... only then go out on EBAY and bid. Just from experience... EBAY is a rip-off waiting to happen most of the time.
