Introduction To Business 101 - Finding Niche Markets

Are you worried about the economy, your job and income? And you want to make money on the Web?

No matter what the online marketing gurus say about how easy it is to make money on the internet with their system, don't believe it, and don't buy their e-reports.

It is a rough, tough, time-consuming effort, that requires work, persistence and patience.

This Lens takes you down the long, lonely road into and through the wilderness of the online business marketing jungle.

As I started my trip into the wilderness, I was told by the gurus that I needed to do so many things to succeed that I was overwhelmed with sensory overload.

  • What product or service are you selling?

  • Develop rich, relevent text for your Web site.

  • Identify a large number of keyworks.

  • Participate in social networking.

  • You must drive traffic to your site.

  • Identify your market niche.

  • Digg, Twitter & Stumble. I have twittered so much that sometimes I think I'm a bird that flys so I won't stumble to much, even though it is delicious to stumbleupon things.

  • And on and on. There are even more things.

I found out, while wandering in the wilderness, that the single most important first step is to find, create and develop your niche market.

And this is what my lens is about.

Creating Your Niche Market

What is a Niche Market

Let's start with an example: the market for plants, which is the general market, with a submarket for herbs. Within the submarket for herbs, is your niche market for parsley. There may even be a smaller niche - growing your own parsley in pots.

When you are brainstorming about developing a niche market on the Web for your business, remember to think small.

Wikipedia, The free Web encyclopedia, defines a niche market as, "a narrowly defined group of potential customers." Furthermore, they say that, "a distinct niche market usually evolves when a potential demand for a product or service is not met by any supply, or when a new demand arises due to changes in society, technology, or the general environment."

So both my street smart example of the parsley niche market, and the book smart encyclopedia definition of niche market, are suggesting that we think small. Avoid a large, general market, like plants, cell phones, auto accessories, etc.

Find your niche market and brainstorm about it extensively.

I do agree. Finding your niche and developing is key. Preferably a niche that isn't too populated with competition.
