For the Love of KMFDM

KMFDM - If you like Industrial Rock, or just like to let out some anger through music from time to time, you need to know that name. I am here to help. I can't call myself a diehard know-it-all longstanding KMFDM fan, but I have been enjoying what KMFDM has to offer for over a year now with nearly all of their CD's at my disposal. Before then, I did not know of KMFDM and what they had to offer, and may never have but……

You see the one who introduced me to KMFDM was none other than my main man, Mark-Bub, the love of my life, the apple of my eye. But enough of that gross sappy crap, KMFDM just wouldn't appreciate it. The first CD I ever really paid attention to as "Attak" the CD that came out a few months after Mark and I got together. It took a while for me to really appreciate that CD, but once I really did, KMFDM, and their totally unique songs sunk their nails in deep. I have been a KMFDM addict ever since.

KMFDM is a German band that has been around since the early 80's switching in and out members (and even changing to their name to "MDFMK" for a short while), but always keeping that heavy sound. The majority of their fans are in it for the long run. Like I said, once that distinctive KMFDM style sinks in, it's there to stay.

KMFDM songs are enjoyed mostly for their intense beats, brilliant use of synthesizers, and 'devil-may-care' attitude. KMFDM's lyrics are very insightful, open-minded, and the message they give is persuasive.

KMFDMs History

KMFDM is a German industrial rock band led by founding member Sascha Konietzko. They have sold over 2 million records worldwide.

KMFDM was founded in Germany on February 29, 1984 as a joint effort between Konietzko and German painter/multi-media performer Udo Sturm to perform for the opening of an exhibition of young European artists at the Grand Palais. Sturm had no lasting musical aspirations, and Konietzko was more interested in studio recordings than the occasional art performance, so he began collaborating with then-Hamburg-based studio owner Raymond Watts and drummer Klaus Schandelmaier, who adopted the stage name En Esch. After working the Hamburg underground music scene and releasing three albums on European labels, the band began its long-standing relationship with Wax Trax! Records when their 1988 album Dont Blow Your Top was licensed to the label for US distribution. After touring with Ministry in 1989-1990, they signed directly to Wax Trax! and quickly became a part of the i...

KMFDM/MDFMK Favorites

Now onto my list of favorite KMFDM songs. I don't want to have to repeat this in every song so pay attention now. Nearly all of KMFDM's songs are: 1. Heavy 2. Unpredictable. 3. Fast paced.

Adios - The title track from their CD "Adios", this one is definitely a must-listen for newbs to the KMFDM style. A very good break-up song (for those nasty ones).

D.I.Y. Also from "Adios", this one is my boyfriend's all time favorite I believe, and for good reason. This is one of their "shout out for themselves" songs. On every CD I've heard yet they have some song about how damn good they are (or how they suck), with lyrics like "KMFDM will never stop!" or " KMFDM forever SUCKS!"

Preach/Pervert - This is another off of Attak. In this song Raymond Watts sings about perverted priests. Doncha just love those kinds of songs?

Stars & Stripes - My newest favorite, this one's off of their most recent CD titled "WW3" which has a ton of songs with political messages concerning the war in Iraq. This one in particular echoes the sentiment of those who were opposed to the war (in an interesting way). If you're not into old German men b-tching about America, you may not like this song.

Stare at the Sun - Another goodie off of their then self titled album "MDFMK". It has a larger than life kind of sound that really rocks my world, and it asks you the burning question "When you stare at the sun what do you see?" Another good "Lucia belts it out" kind of song. I just love her.

Torpedoes - Also from the "MDFMK" album, another good one for people who have never heard KMFDM. A very fine introduction to their style. This is a slower paced song in comparison to others.

Witness - From the album "Adios" This is the strangest KMFDM song I have heard yet, but I just couldn't help but fall in love with it. It's about aliens coming to earth. It almost sounds like they are trying to brainwash you with this song, maybe it's just me.

Superhero - I saved the best for last. This is so far my all time favorite KMFDM song, from my favorite KMFDM album "Attak". Extremely fast paced and all of what that evil seductress Lucia has to offer. It's all about superstar fame, done in a sarcastic way.

KMFDM's Witness

Witness - KMFDM

A music video we enacted to the eerie beat of KMFDM's Witness. Pointedly goofy and dark, it's more for our amusement than yours. Featuring Bubb, Snugg, Codeman Supreme, Screamo Holly, Da Big Ant, and Belly Dancer Dawn.
